And for the two children who innocently happened on strange things fallen from the sky in 1947 that did not belong, their lifetimes were short. It is telling that the ‘first-on-the-scene’ witnesses to the unearthly crash materials were the ones who would say the very least. They were troubled by secrets that were held in their hearts and to their graves. The original and untainted witnesses were ranch manager Mac Brazel and two New Mexico boys, Dee Proctor and Vernon Brazel.

But suffer the children. And these two indeed suffered. Theirs is a story of silence and of suicide. It is a tortured tale of drink, divorce and dying young. It is an incredible account of stolen alien metal and of frightening threats to juveniles. And the brief but stunning confession of one of these Roswell child witnesses is related on the internet for the first time ever, here and now:

THE RANCH MAN’S SON: VERN BRAZEL

Mac Brazel (Vern’s Father)

Mac Brazel managed a ranch that was owned by twin brothers H.S. “Henry” Foster and J.B. “Jasper” Foster. Vernon was Mac’s son. Vern was 8 years old in 1947. Vernon is very rarely mentioned in the Roswell UFO crash saga. In fact, Vern is only mentioned once (and fleetingly) in only one edition of one of Roswell’s two newspapers at the time and in none of the newspapers in the country that carried the story. Only the Roswell Daily Record’s July 9th 1947 issue mentions the ranch man’s son and states in part: “Brazel related…that he and his 8 year old son came across the large area of wreckage…”

That is all that has ever been written about Vernon Brazel. And no one ever got to talk to him because he left New Mexico as soon as he legally could. And no one could find Vern Brazel because he changed his name and moved from state to state. And no one will ever be able to talk to Vernon Brazel because he shot himself young with a handgun, instantly ending his life with a bullet to his head.

This author learned from Loretta Proctor (neighbor to Mac Brazel) in conversations about four years ago, that Vernon was a very close friend with her son Dee, who was also there at the discovery of the crash scene. Dee was seven and Vern was eight. Both were what she called “little ranchers” who helped Mac with chores on weekends and during summers. When I first mentioned Vern’s name to Loretta, however, she snapped: “What do you know about Vern?” Loretta, who had always before been very accommodating and pleasant, startled me with the way in which she wanted to know how I knew of Vern. I then realized the reason for her alarming firmness. Loretta explained that after the crash, Vern “had adjustment problems, a hard time with the other kids” and became the brunt of jokes about his Dad’s unusual find. He wanted to get out of the state as soon as he was of age, Loretta learned. The story followed him wherever he went. Loretta told me that Vernon wound up changing his name and “wanted to get as far away from his identity and this State as he possibly could. He used the last name of Tannehill or Tunnecliffe, I believe. Something like that.” Loretta was to find out that after a brief stint in the US Navy, Vernon lived in many places including Montana, California and Virginia. But as far as Loretta knew, Vern never returned to New Mexico, “he never wanted those memories.” Roswell’s “little secret” about their “little rancher” was about to be told when I asked Loretta, “What became of Vern?” Loretta hesitated and replied, “Vern took a pistol and killed himself. Shot in the head. He was only in his 20s.” Shocked, and hearing what I thought was a suppressed weep, I could only say to her, “We both know why.” Loretta did not reply.

I wanted to confirm as much as I could about this remarkable information imparted to me by Loretta. And in fact, I was able to ascertain through military records that Vernon Brazel was a shipmate of the USS Hassayampa at its homeport in Pearl Harbor. Through the Social Security Death Index, I found that both California and Virginia were given as the last state of residence and as the state where the death certificate was issued. And he did pass in his 20s. All of this Loretta Proctor had told me. I felt almost guilty fact-checking her. This is because the ranch woman who has outlived her beloved son -and is now nearly a century old- has always proven to be a woman of truth.

A BOY NAMED DEE

Rare Photo of Dee Proctor (First in Top Row in White Cowboy Hat)

“Dee” Proctor was Loretta and Floyd Proctor’s son. Loretta does not like to talk about Dee in relation to the Roswell crash. And Dee most assuredly did not want to talk to anyone about it. For many decades the boy witness, even as a senior citizen, actively avoided any discussion of the topic. He literally hid from researchers. His dodging of them was extreme. Proctor neighbor John Tilley told me that in the 1980s, when he and Loretta were in her living room and he happened to mention the crash, he heard Dee in the kitchen (who was visiting his mother and eating breakfast) get up quickly and leave though the back door “like the house was on fire” thus eluding Tilley. John said to me, “I know why Dee didn’t pick up after himself after eating, which he always did at his Mother’s. It’s because he heard us discussing something he did not want to talk about.” Several researchers can relate accounts of Dee literally running from them, not wishing to talk about it in any way. Surely it would have been far, far easier for Dee to simply say that it was too long ago and that he was too young- rather than to flee and hide behind his mother Loretta. Even as a grown adult man he acted immaturely like a child.

Dee exhibited an extraordinary reluctance to discuss the incident throughout his life. He was also a lifelong alcoholic, but never drinking around his mother Loretta. In fact he was described to me by more than one as a “raging alcoholic” (including by a Deputy Clerk at the Lincoln County, NM Clerk’s office.) Dee was nearly hermetic, divorced and he was morbidly obese. He died at age 66 in January 2006 of a massive heart attack while driving to a Ruidoso ranch.

Dee was known to have been at the crash site with Mac at the time of its first discovery. It is very telling that Mac did not tell reporters that Dee was there. He was clearly protecting the boy. Everyone did, including Dee’s mother, Loretta and father, Floyd. In fact it would never have been known that Dee was even at the crash at all had not researchers Kevin Randle and Don Schmitt been informed that the boy was there by Proctor friends and neighbors, including Tommy Tyree. Loretta and her late husband Floyd never offered that Dee was there at the crash site with Mac and Vern (despite prior interviews with researchers.) She only admitted to Dee being at the site when it was clear that she could not deny it. Loretta told me that Dee “worked” for Mac at the grand rate of 25 cents per day on weekends and during Summers. Dee, she is certain, returned home by the weekend that first week in July because she remembers having told Mac that she wanted Dee home for the July 4th weekend festivities. This is why the July 2/3 crash date is the most likely.

Dee never offered to discuss with others what he knew. He would let his mother Loretta do the talking for him. I asked Loretta what Dee saw. She used the same fall-back line that she has used with other researchers over the years: “Well, Dee was just a boy, he don’t really remember that at all. He was just a kid.” Knowing that she used that excuse before with others, I pressed her: “Loretta, Dee may have been just a boy when it occurred, but you surely remember what he told you at the time when he returned home. You were 33 at the time.” Loretta, for the first and only time in the discussions that I had with her, changed the subject so artfully and so quickly that I nearly forgot that I had asked the question.

Dee Proctor, Age 3 (in Middle on Horseback)

Dee could ride horse, Loretta said, from a very young age. He loved going to the Foster Ranch to help Mac and the two would ride together. I believe that it is distinctly possible that it was adventuresome young Dee Proctor who first found the site and first laid eyes on the debris. Loretta told me that Dee would often “go off on his own ahead of Mac, which worried Mac.”

DEE’S CONFESSIONS

Dee talked to only one “outsider” about the crash event, and then only by “accident.” And his mother Loretta spoke only once about details that Dee told her about the site. We now realize that Dee Proctor is to be considered an historical figure who saw what none of us ever will. But it was a “privilege” that Dee never sought and a sight he wished that he had never seen.

Dee was with Brazel when he first discovered the debris field. But he was also with Brazel, he told his mother Loretta, when he discovered “something else” at another site 2-1/2 miles to the east that left him deeply traumatized for the rest of his life. He never told her exactly what he saw there but he did take her to the location in 1994 saying, "Here is where Mack found something else."

The only other time that it is known that Dee spoke of the event was by “accident.” Author and researcher Kevin Randle indicates that on two occasions in the 1990s, when phoning for Loretta Proctor, her son Dee had answered. Realizing that these would be “missed opportunities” not to talk to Dee directly, Kevin engaged him both times in very brief conversation before Dee’s mother got to the phone. Dee quickly and reluctantly confirmed to Kevin some astounding information:

- He was indeed with Mac at the crash site that week in July of 1947 and remembers it
- Military authorities had come to “visit” him to discuss the crash
- He and Mac came upon a large field of metal-like debris: remnants of a craft
- He did not believe the material that he saw to be from earth or made by man
- He said that he later took some friends out with him to later visit the site

This last item is confirmed by Roswell resident Sydney "Jack" Wright, who told researchers Tom Carey and Don Schmitt that two sons of rancher Thomas Edington and one of rancher Truman Pierce’s daughters got to "the other location." This author is currently trying to locate the Edington sons and the Pierce daughter.

Dee’s confirmation that he was visited by military authorities is supported by a confidential contact of noted researcher and author Nick Redfern. Mr. Redfern indicates that he had learned something about Dee Proctor in the late 1980s from an elderly, dying man who had been a US intelligence asset with a legal background. Nick explained that the man was “utterly disgusted” by something that he had been made privy to during the course of conducting an investigation that concerned citizens rights violations by intelligence agents in New Mexico. The man told Nick that he had found out that: Dee Proctor had “the fear of God put in him” by brow-beating operatives when he was visited by them following the crash. He was visited at least twice later when he was grown and he was “issued veiled warnings about speaking out as an adult.” Nick notes astutely: “As a child he was by definition a wild card, and someone deeply involved, but who obviously did not have the mindset of an adult when it occurred, and who was therefore of some concern to the military.” Redfern further adds: “And hence why this case was an awkward one from the military perspective. Giving the rough treatment to a rancher would not be so hard. Doing likewise to a very young kid would hardly be what soldiers would want as the highlight of their career.” So what was the “something else” that Nick’s source told him that Dee had seen?

Body parts.

DID DEE STEAL ROSWELL CRASH “MEMORY METAL”?

In the Summer of 2011 Loretta Proctor’s niece Kay went to visit her Aunt. Kay was accompanied by her friend Jules and they recorded the Roswell crash recollections of the nonagenarian. Speaking of the widely-reported “memory metal” that came from the UFO crash scene and that was seen by many witnesses, Loretta made a jaw-dropping statement. Jules says that with a “measure of smiling venom” Loretta said of her son Dee, “A certain little brat kept it (some memory metal) hidden away his whole life.” The “reminder” visits that Dee received throughout his life were warning visits that Dee should not only never utter a word, but that if he had the memory metal -or knows where pieces may be- he was always under watch and they would always know where he was and what he was doing.

WHAT THE CHILDREN TEACH US

The two Roswell children who found the UFO crash site were the first human beings in history to lay eyes upon the Extraterrestrial and things not made on Earth. Both of them –Dee and Vern- never spoke publicly about the event for as long as they lived. One of them ran from researchers and one ran from life itself. Both had “issues” that seemed insurmountable following the crash event- and both died young , keeping a burden that ultimately proved too difficult for either to bear. In their deaths they remind me of another who was Roswell-involved. The Roswell Base Chaplain Hankerson told his children repeatedly and trance-like on his deathbed, “ too much knowledge can be a very bad thing.”

AJB

CLASSIFIED DOCUMENT CONFIRMS: FATHER OF NUCLEAR MEDICINE & AIR FORCE’S MEDICAL CHIEF DISCUSSED 1940’s FLYING SAUCER CRASH

Copyright 2012, InterAmerica, Inc.

A formerly classified letter from early 1950 reveals that the Father of Nuclear Medicine and the Chief of Medical Research for the US Air Force discussed “bizarre details” surrounding the crash of a flying saucer that had occurred sometime prior. These two distinguished Men of Science from the 1940s and 1950s may have had insight into the UFO phenomenon that went far beyond what most at the time knew about fallen ET.

Remarkably, in this same document mention is made of the work of a Battelle Memorial Institute-associated psychologist who was studying UFO sightings for the US Air Force. This was the very same organization that was tasked to conduct metallurgical studies of the UFO crash “memory metal” found at Roswell in 1947 (as related in this author’s series of articles on Battelle.) This psychologist was also associated with the Aero-Medical Lab at Wright Field – the same lab that new testimony says conducted the examination of alien corpses.

THESE MEN OF SCIENCE

USAF Col. Robert Blount was the Chief of the Medical Research Division for the Air Force’s Office of the Surgeon General. Each branch of service has a “Surgeon General” office that is distinct from the Surgeon General of the United States. For several years, including in 1950, Blount led the Air Force’s innovation and development activities in a range of medical areas. This included in aero-flight medical research, aircrew health assessments, laboratory analysis and aviation biology. He was also associated with the US Research and Development Board. Blount was later named Deputy Commandant of the esteemed Air Force School of Aviation Medicine.

Dr. Robley Evans, MIT Scientist

Dr. Robley Evans was a world-famous MIT scientist. He was named Professor Emeritus of the Cambridge institution and he is universally acknowledged as the “Father of Nuclear Medicine.” He was awarded the prestigious Enrico Fermi Award for his pioneering work on the effects of radiation on the human body. The Fermi Award is the highest award given by the US Department of Energy. Evans technical achievements were diverse and included those in areas such as histochemistry, blood and tissue preservation and physics. Evans built MIT’s first cyclotron or “atom-smasher” and the first such system in the world for medical and biological use.

That these two men of science (in the fields of flight biology, medical research and body studies) were professionally discussing the crash of a flying saucer in an official and classified document is remarkable. And if this crashed saucer was piloted, these scientists, considering their specialities, would no doubt have interest in the alien bodies.

THE TELLING LETTER

In this letter between the two scientists (previously classified “Restricted”) concerning official government UFO study, Blount writes to Evans on March 10, 1950:

“It is recently rumored that one of the so-called flying saucers crashed in Mexico; however, the details are somewhat bizarre at the moment.” Just before this sentence, Blount discusses with Evans that he has also received information that “a new report is in the process of being published and will be classified “Top Secret.”

Here is the telling document:

COL. BLOUNT’S LETTER

In the letter Blount also alludes to a report by a psychologist who had collaborated with Battelle on early UFO study. This psychologist (unnamed in the letter) was  Dr. Paul  M. Fitts, an Ohio State University Professor in Columbus, OH (where Battelle is headquartered.) Dr. Fitts, for instance,  played a role in designing and developing UFO sightings questionnaires (which Battelle referred to as “Observer Interrogation Forms”) according to a formerly Secret  Battelle “Status Report.” Fitts also consulted with Wright Patterson on classified projects areas such as psychology and aero-medical research. Blount requested that Evans return to him Fitt’s sightings report (that Blount had enclosed with the letter) after Evans had read it.  Battelle’s involvement in ‘things UFO’ was to be kept under wraps at all costs. For instance, the USAF’s UFO investigator Edward J. Ruppelt would only refer to Battelle as “Project Bear” or “a research organization in the Midwest” when discussing their UFO work. And Dr. Howard Cross of Battelle became very angry with the USAF’s UFO investigator Dr. J. Allen Hynek when Hynek inquired about a memo (called ‘Pentacle’) that concerned details of Battelle’s earlier UFO studies.    {Thanks is extended to Bob Koford for providing key data on this letter for this article}

CORROBORATION FOR THE ET CRASH AND BODIES?

In the April 10, 2009 article by this author entitled “AF Roswell Study Contributor Admits: It Was ET” (appearing on the UFO Iconoclasts website) I relate my interview of Lt. Col Ray Madson. Madson led the “crash test dummy” project that the Air Force said in their 1997 debunking report accounted for the alien corpses seen at Roswell. Madson explained that he was “used” by the Air Force and he also related to me another stunning story. He explained that his wife, whom he met at Wright Patterson, was employed as an Administrator at the Wright Aero Medical Laboratory in the early 1950s. This is the very same lab that Blount’s letter refers to and that Dr. Paul Fitts was consulting to on UFO matters. And it was during this very same time and at this same laboratory that Madson’s wife told me that she had heard ‘honest talk from honest people’ about ET bodies that had been ‘brought in’ some years prior from a crash in the Southwest.

WHAT THE LETTER MEANS

Who Said It and Why: The letter reveals that a high level USAF officer who led medical research was made privy to discussion of a crashed UFO, likely from the late 1940s. This officer must assign some possible validity to this “talk” to have then related it to an esteemed MIT scientist. He relates this information in a professional capacity on a restricted basis. He addresses Evans as “Dr.” and he signs the letter with his rank and title. This is not “idle talk” between friends - it is talk between professionals. Blount had obviously heard about the crash event while at Wright (or at the Pentagon) from sources that he implicitly trusted or he would not even have mentioned such a thing to Dr. Evans. He indicates to Dr. Evans that the “details” about the flying saucer crash are “somewhat bizarre at the moment.” This means that Col. Blount is aware of specific aspects of the crash and that he has a more intricate understanding of it that he has not included in the letter to Dr. Evans. Whether these “bizarre details at the moment” were clarified to Col. Blount at a later date remains unknown. “Bizarre” is an interesting choice of words and is intentionally used by Blount. These “details” about the crash are certainly of an unusual nature involving unexpected elements. Just what are these “bizarre details”? Over six decades of research later, I think that we know full well what they are:

The Letter Likely Refers to Roswell: Evans says that he heard that the flying saucer crash occurred in Mexico- but I believe that in the retelling –or perhaps on purpose to obfuscate the details- “Mexico” is meant to be “New Mexico” as in Roswell, NM. It cannot mean the alleged UFO crash south of Del Rio, TX on Mexican soil because this allegedly occurred on December 6th of that year and the letter was written in March. The letter was composed about 70 days into the year 1950. Col. Blount refers to the crash in the past tense, as in ‘sometime prior’ to 1950. He is most certainly referring to an event that occurred in the late 1940s. Could he have been referring to the Roswell crash in New Mexico two and a half years before and that credible “rumors” of the event were just then reaching Col. Blount?

The Possible Implications of the Letter: The fact that the officer included any mention at all of a crashed saucer (or rumors thereof) in a letter that otherwise concerned itself with serious, US-government authorized UFO study is in and of itself thoroughly remarkable. Given the extraordinary achievements of Dr. Robley Evans it is inconceivable that Col. Blount would waste the time of the very busy Dr. Evans to even mention such a paradigm-shifting thing had he not felt that the flying saucer crash talk that he had been made privy to did indeed have veracity. He would not have uttered anything about it to Evans had Blount not believed his source.

Is it possible that the aero-medical man Col Blount had later learned the truth about the unidentified aerial recovered at Roswell? Did Blount receive further “details” about the event that he had sought? Was he later himself involved in the ‘body studies’ of alien pilots?

AJB

SIGNALS OF A HOAX: UFOS AND RADIO CONTROL

Like CGI, RC has forever blurred what is real and what is not in the world of UFOs. Radio Control (or Remote Control) is more prevalent and accessible today than ever before. And in recent years there have been astounding advances in such remote signal technology. Its cost is no longer prohibitive. CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) has today made our ability to trust any UFO video on sites such as YouTube very difficult. In the same way, because of RC, we cannot be certain that UFO sightings made today are ‘real’ or not. RC vehicles likely account for many UFO sightings, whether they are intended as hoaxes or whether they are simply misidentified as extraterrestrial vehicles when seen in flight.

Regular readers know that I am not a skeptic and that I am convinced of the reality of the visiting alien. But I am also a critical thinker and know that the compulsion to hoax is often a dynamic that is ignored to the detriment of UFO proponents. We have to pay attention to the man behind the curtain. We must be aware of emerging technologies that may impact on the veracity or truth of reported UFO sightings. Just as Kodak and Polaroid ignored the digital revolution, the UFO research community was slow to realize the enormity of the use of CGI and Photoshop imagery in purported UFO films and photos. Similarly, we are now in danger of ignoring the potentially enormous role that RC technology increasingly plays in ‘things UFO’ and how hoaxes are made.

KIDS ON RC

Rather than focus on expert RC engineers and industry professionals and their incredible capabilities, I have opted to highlight amateur attempts at UFO radio controlled flight. All of these filmed “UFO experiments” are ‘homemade’ or are done by small operations, teenagers or younger people. These short video clips may provide insight into the true nature of many historic UFO sightings and footage. Perhaps found within these films are the solutions to past UFO mysteries and to those that will no doubt be encountered in the future:

Amateur’s Flying Saucer Could Fool Anyone from a Distance
(Simply awesome, especially the first minute):

Stunning 12 Second Clip of a Fake Flying Saucer
(Appears like a tailless circular craft zipping impossibly through the clouds)

Saudi Teen Creates UFO More Convincing than CGI
(Advance/begin at :51 seconds and compare to similar ‘genuine’ UFO footage)

Balloon RC that Could be an Answer to Socorro
(Note footage from 1:39 if Zamora’s red insignia were emblazoned on its side)

The Solution to the “Flying Humanoids” Phenomenon Revealed
(May help to explain recent films of ‘Unidentified Flying Humans’)

RCs and UFOs

Advances in radio signal and digital technology (combined with advances in ‘craft’ flight stabilization) have enabled even the average kid to do this:

http://www.draganfly.com/uav-helicopter/draganflyer-x6/gallery/videos/

Note about one quarter of the way through this brief video of an RC that it is capable of silent hovering and of extreme vertical takeoff like a shotgun (and like many UFOs are purported to be able to do.)

Today’s RC capabilities are indeed amazing, but even the technologies beginnings were impressive. The first known public use of remote radio control technology was in demonstrating the maneuvering of a small boat at a distance by Tesla in 1898. During WWII (and after with the advent of the transistor) such technology was further perfected for military, aerial and industrial applications. But by the early 1950s, “remote control” model vehicles and hobbyist aircraft (often self-built) were in the hands of many high school and college age males with a geek sense. By the 1960s (as recounted by a mid-1960s alum of New Mexico Tech) students in Socorro had constructed an unidentified aerial ‘vehicle’ controlled by radio signals that jammed operations at White Sands!

From that period on, RC was perfected by hobbyists and hoaxers while ignored by UFO “investigators” as a possible solution to some sightings.

Today there are whole ‘underground’ online communities that bring together RC hobbyists with a special interest in fake UFOs (such as forum.xufo.net, a Dutch ‘multi-copter’ enthusiasts site.) When the angle and light is just right, the “RC UFOs” are indistinguishable from the “real UFOS.” They may cause us to have to reevaluate film and photos from the past and to be far more vigilant in the future.

DENIAL OF SERVICE: THE VETERANS WHO PRETEND THEY WEREN’T AT ROSWELL

Copyright 2012, InterAmerica, Inc.

In researching the UFO crash near Roswell in 1947 sometimes we find that the denials of involvement are more revealing than the testimony that is garnered from those who confirm their knowledge or participation. Recent interviews with US Army Air Force veterans show that some military men (who would otherwise be proud of their service) will even go to the incredible length of completely denying that they had ever even served at Roswell Army Air Field in 1947, despite irrefutable evidence that they indeed had been stationed there.

Though now in their 80s, the vets contacted and mentioned in this article were articulate and clear-headed. Their outright refusal to acknowledge their service at the base at that time is not a matter of “lapsed memory” nor a “confusion of dates.” It is rather an intentional disavowal. What would make these men, in the winter of their lives, lie about such a thing? Why would a veteran deny what he was a veteran of?

The answer may be found in a closer examination of the specific units at Roswell to which these men were attached at that time. It is then that we understand why these men choose not to remember what they would rather forget: the sight of strange remnants of a sky-fallen craft and its alien pilots.

ROSWELL TEAM CHASES THE UNDERTAKER

Members of a recently formed Roswell crash research team (which includes this author) have been working on tracking down and interviewing what may now be the very last of the surviving service men at Roswell in 1947. Working from a list of names, ranks and phone numbers assembled by Tom Carey and Don Schmitt, we have been feverishly and systematically contacting these veterans to see if they can offer any insight into the crash event from 65 years ago.

There is now a “sense of urgency” like never before because it is realized that the opportunity to ever again reach these potential witnesses is a “closing window” because all of them are now at least 83 years of age or older. This is why some researchers liken this pursuit of potential first-hand military witnesses to “chasing the undertaker.” And this is why it is now vital to try to elicit any new information that can be gained from speaking to these individuals. If not done very soon, the ability to do so will be lost forever. Time is now truly of the essence. And that is why it is so frustrating when some of these individuals are not only uncooperative- but wholly deny they were ever servicemen at Roswell to begin with.

TWO EXAMPLES OF DENIAL OF ROSWELL SERVICE

The following two examples are illustrative of this “denial of Roswell service.” Both of these individuals (whose last names are omitted to maintain their rightful privacy) were confirmed to have been stationed at Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) including during the entire month of July, 1947. They are clearly pictured in the 1947 Roswell Base Yearbook with accompanying information on the unit in which they served and other details. Following are summary notes on the interviews of these deniers:

Robert E. ___
Geneva, PA
(With the 1st Air Transport Unit)
January 3, 2012:

Denies being the Robert E. ____ associated with the Roswell Army Air Field. Pleasant but guarded. Offered that he was with the Army Air Force in 1946. When I said “How about in 1947?” he replied “Maybe for four months in 1947.”

I said “Were you stationed at Roswell?” He said, “No.” I replied “In New Mexico?” again, “No.” I asked then “Where?” to which he said, “Not there.” “Have you ever heard of Roger Ramey (a General of Roswell incident fame)?” to which he said, “No.”

I asked if he was familiar with the crash near Roswell that year. He said “No.” I clarified, “A crash of extraterrestrial beings?...” He then said, “Oh, yes, on TV, yes.”

I then said that it was an amazing coincidence that his name is the exact same name of another gentleman who was confirmed to have been at Roswell Army Air Field during the same time that he was in the Army Air Force. He said, “Yes it is.” I then thanked him for his time and hung up. {I will add here the Robert E.’s surname is so unusual that there are less than 20 sharing the same last name in the entire United States.}

Albert O. ____
Lincoln, NE
(With the 603rd Air Engineering Squadron)
January 3, 2012:

First got his wife who was very curious about my call. She understandably asked why I was calling. I mentioned the research of military history and the year 1947. Almost panicky, she immediately shot back, “I wasn’t married to him then so I don’t know anything.” Anything about what? I wondered to myself. The woman protested too much about something I had not yet even mentioned! She said that her husband Albert was not available and requested that I call him back in a few hours, which I did.

Albert denied being at Roswell Army Air Field in 1947. He said that he was there in 1946 and then was “sent to Alaska.” I asked him if he was with the 603rd. He said, “I don’t even recall the numbers anymore.” I asked him if he knew another 603rdr and mentioned his name. He said that he did not. I asked him if he knew who Butch Blanchard (the Base’s Commander) was. He said, “I did not know those guys. Wasn’t he an officer? I was just a private.” I told Albert that I had just gotten off the phone with another gentleman who maintained that mentioned 1946 but denied 1947. I asked him if he could be mistaken on this? Albert replied with a nervous and knowing laugh, “Could be.”

I asked him if he ever had heard of any unusual even that happened in July of 1947 at Roswell? He simply said, “no” and did not even ask of me what was unusual that had happened. I said, “You know, the crash of a UFO.” He said, “Oh you mean aliens and all? (more nervous laughter).” I then said that several service men and officers did not think it was funny and that they maintained that something not of earth really did crash and that it was not a balloon. He then said, “Well they had their reasons then to cover it up.” I said, “Well then you don’t think the alien thing is so silly?” Albert, becoming very serious in tone, then said, “They would have known more, look, why don’t you talk to military intelligence?” I told him that I and others had. Not getting any further with him I closed the conversation and thanked him.

WHY THEY DENY

Before the scoffers and naysayers begin their inevitable attack on my discussions with these vets, I need to make some things very clear. These are only two examples of such obvious denial. There are countless others from over the years. I introduce myself to such potential witnesses as a “researcher of military history.” I do not begin by explaining that I am researching UFOs and the Roswell crash. In fact I begin with “small talk” about where I am calling from, the weather or perhaps some other innocuous topic which invariably leads to them “opening up.” In this way they become more forthcoming and comfortable, even friendly. This also allows me to determine if they are of ‘sound mind’ and if they are able to respond in an articulate and cogent manner.

Both of these vets are still very much “with it.” Both were gracious in the beginning and both were happy to discuss anything. Except Roswell. Or admit that they were even there. It is not that they do not wish to “get involved” by having their names revealed (I often offer and honor anonymity) or that they were not well or that they found me to be a “nuisance” caller (at least in the beginning of the call.) I engage them thoroughly in other matters before gradually leading into a discussion of the crash. And certainly at any time these witnesses could simply say that they had heard nothing at the time about the crash being ET or that they believe it to be a hoax, etc. But instead they have decided to say that they were not even there. This offers them the ultimate “out” and a reason that they cannot say anything because “they weren’t even there.”

These two are not “fuzzy on their dates” of service- one of them outright and boldface lies that he was ever at Roswell at all, while the other hedges on the months in ’47 that he was there. Veterans remember their service. They do not “hedge” or “obfuscate” about the” when’s and where’s” of such service. I talked with them and I know that they were purposeful in their obfuscation. So before the naysayers interject that I asked leading questions, or that the vets simply did not really remember, or that they did just did not want to be bothered, let me interject: These men knew exactly where they were and exactly what they were saying and not saying. And again, they are not alone in their denial. Other researchers have had similar experiences with other veterans of Roswell. Even 15-20 years ago (when they were in their 60s or so and their memories were even presumably clearer) some of these Roswell vets would deny their installation at Roswell.

The real reason that Robert E. ____ of the 1st Air Transport Unit did not wish to admit his service at Roswell is because the 1st Air Transport Unit has long been known to have been a very involved unit after the crash retrieval. Robert no doubt knew the Captain of the 1st Air Transport Unit, Oliver “Pappy” Henderson. Henderson confessed to his daughters and to his wife that he was involved in carrying wreckage from Roswell to Wright Patterson in Dayton. And he would have known Sergeant Robert E. Smith, also a member of the First Air Transport Unit at Roswell Army Air Field. Smith told researchers directly that his unit was involved and that he had spent an entire day loading three aircraft with the material from the site.

The real reason that Albert O.____ of the 603rd Air Engineering Squadron did not wish to admit his service at Roswell is because others in this Squadron had confessed their unit’s major involvement in the incident. Sergeant Homer G. Rowlette, a member of the 603d confessed to his son Larry and his daughter Carlene Green that his unit had been engaged in the retrieval and that he had seen the corpses of non-humans. One of the main tasks of the 603rd was the overhauling of the B-29s . And B-29 Crew Chief Milton Sprouse came forward about four years ago to admit his knowledge of the crash as the crash of an extraterrestrial vehicle.

THE HONORABLE AND THE DISHONORABLE

Service to your country can be characterized as either “honorable” or as dishonorable. Those veterans who have come forward (or who were “found” and were forthcoming) about their knowledge of the Roswell Incident are to be commended. History and Truth will honor them. Those such as Robert and Albert who would even deny their time in service to their country because of what happened during that time and at that place are not “honorable” men. The future will not view them with favor.

AB

LIE DETECTOR CONFIRMS KEY ROSWELL CRASH WITNESS TOLD THE TRUTH by Anthony Bragalia

Copyright 2011, InterAmerica, Inc.

To catch a liar is not easy. Our ability to detect a lie is 50/50. This “no better than chance” ability was improved upon with the advent of the polygraph in the early 1920s. This raised those odds to about 65%, though the polygraph remains “fluky” and the results it produces, controversial. But a new technology has recently emerged that applies software to analyze psycholinguistic cues to indicate truthfulness. This new “lie catcher” software was recently applied to the testimony of a key witness to the Roswell UFO crash in early July of 1947. This witness was Major Jesse Marcel. The new technology confirms that Jesse Marcel had indeed told the truth as a Witness to Roswell.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Two renowned professors at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ have recently stunned the criminal psychology and law enforcement communities with the introduction of a computer program offering an astounding 86%-99% rate of success in lie detection. The creators of this “veracity software” are Dr. Raj Chandramouli and Dr. Koduvayur Subbalakshmi. The two (who have established Instream Media, LLC) are now developing partnerships with insurance companies (to detect against false claims) and other businesses where deception often comes in to play. The software developed by the professors is an extraordinary text analytics program.

Dr. Chandrmouli (who graciously provided the software and instructions for use to this author) explains that their approach to deceptive content utilizes a unique combination of statistical analysis, linguistics and psychology. The software combs for 88 psycholinguistic cues that indicate whether an individual is “covering up” or speaking the truth as he or she understands and believes it to be. Traditional polygraphs examine such things as pulse, sweat and respiratory rates to determine veracity. Similarly, “voice stress analysis” has been implemented. But the Stevens Institute scientists (who worked with an interdisciplinary team of linguists, psychologists and information technology engineers) believe that the standard polygraph and voice stress approaches have far too many variables and ‘outside influences’ that can adversely affect the accuracy of those machines and those that operate them.

The professors’ approach is far less open to such variables and influences. They and their team developed an algorithm based upon the Freudian notion that the truth always leaks out no matter how hard we attempt to cover it up- a phenomenon of course known as the “Freudian Slip.”

The technology does not require that an individual be “hooked up” in any way to any kind of machine. In fact, the individual does not even need to be alive to use the deception technology. By carefully and accurately transcribing into text the known and confirmed words of what a person has said on tape or in a video, the Stevens Institute technology is able to scrutinize and interpret their words in text form to determine if they are truthful.

THE WITNESS

Rare Photo of Major Jesse Marcel in 1947

In 1947, Major Jesse Marcel was stationed at Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) as a Base Intelligence Officer. He was called by Chaves County Sheriff George Wilcox to respond to ranch foreman Mack Brazel’s visit to him about the discovery of strange debris discovered in a field on the JB Foster Ranch in early July of that year.

Major Marcel, when located in 1978, described seeing, handling and transporting very strange crash debris materials. Marcel said that some of the debris was very thin and light “metal with plastic properties.” He also described other odd material that was impervious to the heat of an applied torch and that would not dent or scratch even from the blows of a sledgehammer. Marcel also mentioned very strange “parchment” material and longer curved metal-like pieces. He said that this sky-fallen debris covered a very large area and that there appeared to have been an explosion in the air. He insisted it was not the debris from any kind of weather balloon or plane, that is was some sort of aircraft not of earth.

Here is a video of Major Marcel confessing to his ET debris discovery in one of his only televised appearances:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcONLgqe-RQ

THE TRUTH

Dr Chandramouli provided this author use of the software to test for falsehood the testimony of Major Marcel. The conversion of key testimony by Marcel was transcribed and the results are in!

To the statement by Marcel:

“One thing that impressed us about the debris was the fact that a lot of it looked like parchment. It had little numbers with symbols that we had to call hieroglyphics because I could not understand them. They could not be read, they were just like symbols, something that meant something, and they were not all the same, but the same general pattern I would say.”

Dr. Chandramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

To the statement by Marcel:

“This particular piece of metal was, I would say, about two feet long and perhaps a foot wide. See, that stuff weighs nothing, it’s so thin, it isn’t any thicker that the tinfoil in a pack of cigarettes. So I tried to bend the stuff, it wouldn’t bend. We even tried to make a dent in it with a 16 pound sledge hammer, and there was no dent in it.”

Dr. Chadramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

To the statement by Marcel:

“There were small beams about three-eighths of a half inch square with some sort of hieroglyphics on them that nobody could decipher. These looked something like balsa-wood, and were about the same weight, except that they were not wood at all. They were very hard, although flexible, and would not burn.”

Dr. Chadramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

CONCLUSIONS

The Stevens Institute technology analysis indicates with certainty that Major Marcel did indeed accurately relate in transcribed interviews the truth as he believed it to be:

Marcel said that there was a crash in the summer of 1947. The debris from that crash included varying types: 1) Parchment-like material with strange, indecipherable symbols 2) beams made of material that was like wood, but “not wood at all” that also had hieroglyphics and that, remarkably, would not burn and 3) unusually thin and unusually light metal-like material that would not even dent to the force of a pounding sledgehammer.

This author is continuing to work through the testimony of Major Marcel, as found in various interview transcripts and films to apply the psycholinguistic lie-catching technology. Comparison to other testimony (such as that of Officer Bill Rickett and Officer Sheridan Cavitt, who were also at the crash scene with Marcel) will be conducted as well and reported on at a later date.

I do not ascribe 100% certainty to anything. It is for this reason that I do not offer a “firm endorsement” of the findings of the Stevens Institute analysis. That qualified, I do believe that it is the best-available technology to ascertain honesty.

Half of writing history is hiding the truth. Hopefully technology will one day free us, at last, to uncover the truth, the whole truth, and to correct history.

AB

ROSWELL “MEMORY METAL” FOUND ON OFFICIAL FILM OF B-2 STEALTH? By Anthony Bragalia

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 225px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DtSb4rDGJzc/TtZsf0BeR8I/AAAAAAAAAIc/MWoOeolAXqY/s320/B2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680847273771026370" />
Copyright 2011, InterAmerica, Inc.

The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit is an advanced military aircraft that has unique capabilities that are far-ranging. Introduced in 1997 (with an alleged first flight in 1989) there are just 22 of them in the world. They incorporate low observable stealth technology. Some have speculated that they may even utilize anti-gravity technologies or that they possess other exotic features that are kept from public view.

But it may not always be possible to keep such features from outside detection. One officially released film of the B-2 Bomber in flight that is very “revealing” may have somehow escaped the scrutiny of US Air Force censors. A recently-discovered segment of this video appears to show another of the B-2 Stealth’s capabilities: The ability to Morph.

This brief clip seems to demonstrate the craft’s “morph” of the metal skin of its outer hull. This would allow it to “intelligently” perform critical functions (and perhaps to “self-heal” if damaged by enemy action.)

WHERE THE FILM COMES FROM

The remarkable film shown below comes from a broadcast by the Military Channel. The Military Channel is a distinguished specialty cable station that is owned by the media corporation that also owns the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet (as well as the “How Stuff Works” video series.) Started in 1999, the Military Channel is known to maintain a cooperative relationship with historical societies and with the US Government in obtaining original footage that relates to the military, warfare and military history. The “legitimacy” of their programming and the authenticity of their broadcast information is without question.

Re-broadcast on YouTube, the footage is entitled “B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber” and simply shows views of the Stealth on the ground and in flight from various angles for about 4 minutes. It is a “PR” film. But despite its garnering over 1,800,000 views, nobody appears to have made any mention in the “comments” section about the morphing metal hull.

THE FILM

Click here to see the video “MORPHING SKIN” OF A B-2 BOMBER IN FLIGHT

This film is 3:51 seconds in length. Viewing the entire film it becomes rather evident that it is a USAF-issued video.

At approximately the 2:40 second mark (and for a duration of about three seconds) one can clearly observe a “gape” or “opening” on the topside front of the craft that seems to “self-close” in a seamless and almost surreal way. If one looks very closely it appears as though the skin of the craft is “self-directed” and “intelligent” as if it were “remembering” its original shape, like Roswell’s memory metal or a Nitinol actuator!

Of course I am not taking a definitive stance on the true nature of this phenomenon as revealed on this video. It could well be that there is some sort of “perception bias” or that it is a “trick of the light.”

Thoughts from others are welcome on what they think about this enigmatic footage. And thanks are extended to Gilles Fernandez, Philippe from Lille, France and to Rich Reynolds for their keen observations and insight.

AB

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://bragalia.blogspot.com/2011/11/roswell-memory-metal-found-on-official.html' title='ROSWELL “MEMORY METAL” FOUND ON OFFICIAL FILM OF B-2 STEALTH? It also suggests that Albert Einstein was one of those brilliant scientists. In the tape, which can be heard below, we learn that Einstein and other science notables had expressed to President Truman their concern about the unknown objects, including those seen flying above our nation’s Capitol. The scientists beseeched Truman not to attempt to shoot down the UFOs.

Related information has surfaced that reveals that Einstein had maintained a long-standing and close relationship with a physicist who was a key member of a CIA UFO study group. The group that was organized in the same year as the mass UFO flights over the Capitol.

Finally, a little-known quote from Einstein has been found buried in a 1952 newspaper that hints at Einstein’s true thoughts on the visitors in our skies.

A BROADCASTER SPEAKS ABOUT EINSTEIN & UFOs

Broadcaster and Author Frank Edwards

Frank Edwards was an early radio pioneer. He began as a broadcaster in the 1920s on Pittsburgh’s KDKA, which was owned by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Edwards then hosted network news and opinion programs nationally for many years through the Mutual Broadcasting System. Edwards was also associated with the AFL/American Federation of Labor (who sponsored some of Edwards’ programming) and the Union’s famous president, George Meany. Edwards had become a familiar name in households across America. He was well connected to politicians inside and outside the Beltway and to prominent business people and high-level decision-makers from many walks of professional life. Edwards even appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in October of 1966 to relate some of his more interesting investigations into unexplained mysteries (which had later in his life become of strong interest to Edwards.) By then he had released seven books through major publishers including the Citadel Press. Some were category best-sellers including “Flying Saucers: Serious Business” and “Stranger than Science.”

In a lecture given to a Detroit audience in 1956, Edwards made statements about Einstein that he believed to be true based upon his sources and his understanding of historical circumstance. And these statements are nothing short of remarkable. Edwards maintained that just four years before, in 1952, Albert Einstein had delivered an urgent message to then President of the United States Harry Truman. Einstein was joined by other prominent scientists of the day in warning that Truman’s “shoot down” policy of UFOs over DC was unwise.

Some of Edwards lectures have thankfully been preserved by the historical research group Project 1947. My thanks also to researcher Grant Cameron (who specializes in study of US Presidents and UFOs) for his assistance. The several-minute segment of Edward’s 1956 lecture mentioning Einstein and UFOs can be heard here:

LECTURE
Frank Edwards 1956 Lecture Segment

EINSTEINS CLOSE ASSOCIATE – A UFO INVESTIGATOR FOR THE CIA

Atomic Physicist Samuel Goudsmit

Born in the Hague, Holland in 1902, Sam Goudsmit obtained degrees in physics and moved to the US in 1927. But even as a student Goudsmit had achieved fame by proposing the model of the spinning electron and developing similar advanced concepts resulting in ten published papers. For nine years he helped to lead the physics department at the University of Michigan. A strong anti-Nazi, in 1941 he joined MIT’s Radiation Laboratory and helped to develop the short wavelength magnetron as well as fighter-based radar. In early 1945 Goudsmit received an unusual assignment from the US Government to go rapidly into European laboratories as they were being liberated to garner any information of scientific accomplishments from those labs (which had been taken over by the Nazis.) Goudsmit then became Chair of the Physics Department for Brookhaven National Laboratory. Still later Goudsmit helped lead the American Physical Society, retiring in 1974 and passing in 1978.

Einstein was very close to Goudsmit. Reading through correspondence between the two it is evident that they were close both professionally and personally, with Einstein taking on a very familiar tone when communicating with his physicist friend. There are many archives that reveal this, including a repository of correspondence between the two which can be found at the Niels Bohr Library of the American Institute of Physics. In Box 8, Folder 62 we see many letters written by Einstein to Samuel. These letters span the period of 1947-1954.

During much of this same time period, both also served as officials to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. Goudsmit was on the Board of Directors while Einstein was on its “Board of Sponsors.”

Curiously missing from nearly every Goudsmit biography is mention of his direct and active involvement in the study of UFOs. Goudsmit was called upon by H. Marshall Chadwell (the CIA’ s Director of Scientific Intelligence) to participate in the Agency’s 1952 “Robertson Panel” UFO study group (which was headed by Cal Tech’s H.P. Robertson.) The panel was charged with reviewing the available evidence on UFOs and to consider the potential danger that the phenomenon may pose to our national security.

The fact that Frank Edwards maintained that in 1952 Einstein and “other scientists” had warned Truman not to shoot at the UFOs coincides nicely with the directive and mission of the Robertson Panel (which convened in January of 1953) to determine if the phenomenon posed a military threat. It seems almost too “coincidental” for there not be some correlation.

Though the Robertson Panel supposedly had concluded that such sightings posed no threat or danger, this is not to be believed as the entire Robertson episode is cloaked in lies. In an interview in 1958 with Mike Wallace of CBS, Major Donald Keyhoe broadcast to the nation that the CIA had been involved in the study of UFOs five years earlier. Despite this, the CIA went into denial mode. The Assistant Director of the CIA’s OSI refused to declassify the Robertson report and declined to disclose CIA sponsorship of the panel.

Ultimately, a very sanitized version of the report which deleted reference to the agency and mention of warfare was released. This author spoke last year to Fred Durant (now well in to his 90s) who was the Secretary of the Robertson Panel. My conversation and emails with the scientist-spy Durant made it very clear that he was not being truthful or entirely open about the Panel and its findings, nor his personal knowledge about UFOs gained through his years in government service.

It has since been learned that Goudsmit was also very close to Dr. Linus Pauling. The two even co-authored a major work, “The Structure of Line Spectra.” This author has reported in articles (including “UFOs and Vitamin C: Linus Pauling’s Flying Saucer Secret”) that Pauling was a secret UFO researcher whose papers (marked “confidential”) and extensive library of books on the subject revealed intense interest in the subject.

Pauling corresponded with Dr. Stirling Colgate of NMIT and Los Alamos about the Socorro UFO sighting. And Pauling, it was discovered, also worked with Battelle in the early 1950s on “Intermetallics” - the basis for Roswell-like memory metal. Goudsmit had associations with UFO study - and with people engaged in UFO research - that are continuing to emerge.

He very likely had conversed privately with other contemporaries about the issue. It is in fact inconceivable that he did not. Though I have not yet found any correspondence between Goudsmit and Einstein relative to UFOs, it is very difficult to believe that the issue was never brought up. Not only was the nature of Goudsmit and Einstein’s dialog far-ranging, and not only did Goudsmit have regular dialog with Einstein during the time that Goudsmit was known to be studying UFOs, but others on the Robertson Panel (including physicist Lloyd Berkner) were either professionally or personally known to Einstein. There were several physicists on the Panel. To think that the world’s greatest did not know what his friends were doing strains credulity.

THE CURIOUS QUOTE FROM EINSTEIN ON FLYING SAUCERS

Only once is it known for certain that Albert Einstein spoke directly about UFOs. In the St. Louis Post Dispatch, AP Item, 7/30/52 it is reported that Einstein wrote evangelist Louis Gardner (in reply to Gardner’s query about UFOs):

“These people have seen something. What it is I do not know and I am not curious to know.”

The article in which this quote appears can be seen here (thanks and credit to researcher David Rudiak):

QUOTE
St. Louis Post Dispatch Article

The year of this Einstein quote (1952) is more than interesting. It is the same year that the Robertson Panel (on which Einstein’s associate Goudsmit served) was planned. It was also the same year that mass UFO sightings were occurring with frequency over DC. And it was the same year that Frank Edwards maintained Einstein had warned the President about attacking the saucers.

What is more interesting about the Einstein quote is what is not said. Though Einstein admits that there is reality to the phenomena (“These people are seeing something”) he says that he does not want to know just what it is that the people are seeing. This is of course disingenuous of Einstein. Since when does science shy away from encouraging finding solutions to mysteries? Einstein’s own friend and associate Goudsmit certainly was interested in the phenomena during that same time period Einstein was writing Gardner about it! It sounds more like Einstein simply does not wish to engage someone outside of his circle on this obviously sensitive matter.

Another interpretation is that Einstein really did not want to know because he was afraid to know. And this makes sense. If what Edwards says is true, Einstein feared the phenomenon. But what he feared more was us. Einstein feared our potential for a war-like reaction to the continued flyovers of craft that were piloted by beings that were not from here and that were unknown to science.

RETURNING TO WANAQUE: SILENCE BROKEN ON A SIGNIFICANT UFO SIGHTING by Anthony Bragalia

Copyright 2011, InterAmerica, Inc.

The UFO activity reported by dozens of people near a water reservoir in Wanaque, NJ in 1966 remains some of the most compelling testimony to extraterrestrial reality in human history. As reported in my previous article (appearing on June 6 in The Bragalia Files) this “mass UFO sighting” has remained enmeshed in secrecy and strangeness. The time has now come to reveal what really happened at Wanaque. Forty-five years after the Wanaque event, this author has found, interviewed and named a former Wanaque Police Officer and witness to the event who makes these stunning admissions:

- He personally took a photograph of the UFO
- It was confiscated by the US Air Force
- The Wanaque Police Chief at the time was in on the “clamp down.” He helped to recover a photo of a UFO taken by one of his officers- and then made him hand it over to the Air Force.
- This very same Police Chief had seen the UFO himself but never told his own men!

This author has also learned:

- The likely identity of the individual who took other photographs of the event that were not confiscated (including the dramatic beam shot)
- The object was capable of “morphing.” The Police Officer I have interviewed explained that the ‘object’ turned from an intense ball of light to more of a ‘cigar-shape.’

Finally, “Wanaque-like” UFOS may well have been filmed in other places and at other times. These astounding videos are shown here collectively for the first time.

WANAQUE COP: “THE AIR FORCE STOLE MY UFO PHOTO”

Charles Theodora was a 20 year old Wanaque Police Officer in 1966. Today retired and living in Northern NJ not too far from the original UFO event, Theodora tells a story that is simply extraordinary. His account confirms that the object seen at Wanaque in that year were photographed by officials. It also reveals that the United States Air Force took possession of some of the images. Records and newspaper accounts from the time confirm that Charles Theodora is exactly who he says that he is, a former Wanaque Police Officer at the time of the sightings. This author has spoken to Theodora and exchanged several emails. There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Theodora is truthfully recounting the events as he remembers them.

Theodora explains that he actually observed the UFO on three different occasions over a several month period during that year. What has become very evident is that the Wanaque “sighting” was by no means a singular one. The same type of UFO was seen by many during the whole of 1966 and even continued sporadically for some time longer. He remains convinced to this day that what he had observed was not man-made nor was it any kind of atmospheric event of any type. Measured in his responses, he does not draw any conclusions about the exact nature of what he saw - but he is very clear about what it was not.

Theodora also noted that the UFO (which appeared very bright) changed colors and also changed shape! He reports a “morphing” aspect to the UFO whereby it appeared as a “white globe” and then changed as it moved to a “cigar shape.” This helps to explain why various people at the time described the event in different ways. Some reported that the UFO appeared to be a “globe” or “globular” and others said that it was “fuzzy” while still others reported a more elongated shape. It was a shape -shifting craft. Some saw the “beams” that emanated from the underside of the UFO to the water while others did not. In talking with several of the witnesses today, it is apparent that it depends on just when someone saw the craft and where they were positioned. This accounts for the variances in reported descriptions of the UFO. And we now know that this “event” was a multiple one that occured over several months.

Theodora states that on one of these occasions he was able to take a photograph of the object. He described the image as a very large bright white “unnatural” object floating above a hill in the distance. He is adamant that it was not a celestial body nor a reflection. He saw the object travel out to the distance. Theodora said that the Wanaque Police Department has an inventory of Polaroid cameras at the station. Policemen at the time would have to “check out” the camera from the station, they were not always at the ready in all cars. This may help to explain why there appears to be precious few alleged photographs of the event taken by officials. But there is another and far more disturbing reason:

The United States Air Force seized the one photograph of the UFO that we know for sure was taken by Police!

Theodora states that he and another officer, Sgt. Ben Thompson, were ordered by their Police Chief John Casazza, to convene, not at the station, but at a nearby local high school. There they were met by Casazza and by a uniformed officer from the United States Air Force. Casazza knew that Theodora had taken the photograph. He ordered Casazza to surrender the photograph to the Air Force Officer. Theodora did not feel comfortable in doing this. The Police Chief explained to him that the photograph was “not his to keep.” He said that the photograph was taken with “station equipment” and was therefore “government property.” He said that it was his decision to hand the photograph over to the federal government- and that is exactly what was done. Casazza then told Theodora and Thompson to “forget about it” and to discontinue talking about their sightings and to never mention this meeting with the Air Force to anyone ever.

Theodora did not speak about this at any length for decades, until now.

What is even more amazing is this:

The same Police Chief who admonished Theodora to “forget about it” himself had a remarkable UFO sighting that would rival Theodora’s! Even more astonishingly, Theodora himself was unaware that his former Chief had this sighting and that it had been kept from him! Theodora only learned of it when, 45 years later, I read aloud verbatim to Theodora a little-known interview of the Chief that was done by amateur astronomer Lloyd Mallan (several months after the initial 1966 sighting.) The Chief’s sighting (detailed in the next section) was a remarkable one. Theodora was thoroughly taken aback when he learned for the first time that the very man who was tried to minimize the event –and made him surrender his UFO photograph- had himself seen the thing!

PHOTOGRAPHER OF WANAQUE UFO PHOTOS FOUND?

Charles Theodora believes it to be possible that his former colleague Sgt. Ben Thompson took photographs of the Wanaque UFO. This does not surprise him as they were both given a “talk down” by the Chief and the Air Force Officer about the event- with Theodora’s UFO photograph as a topic of discussion. Theodora did not offer an opinion on the authenticity of the photo and said that it was “new to me.” There have been persistent rumors that a NJ Police Office took a series of photos of the Wanaque UFO, including the beam shot. Theodora believes that Thompson was “a straight shooter” who would not have had the inclination nor the ability to “fake” any UFO photographs.

August Roberts (the researcher who submitted the series of Wanaque photos that appeared in Dell’s 1967 UFO Reports) later stated that he had received them from an anonymous, unnamed Ringwood, NJ Police Officer. But Theodora explains that Ringwood and Wanaque (as well as other tiny towns at the time) shared resources and that everyone knew everyone, which could explain the mention of Ringwood. Recent communication from other witnesses received by this author point to Sgt. Ben Thompson of Wanaque as the photographer. Unfortunately, Thompson passed away at age 63 in 1988. He passed while still residing in the area, with his last addresses in Haskell and Passaic.

The reason that Thompson was directed by his Chief of Police to convene with Theodora to meet him and an Air Force Officer is this:

Casazza believed that there were other photographs taken by his men. He suspected Thompson, but only knew for sure that Theodora had taken a photo of the UFO. By having them both there, he was silently pressing Thompson to surrender the photos that he had taken too. I also believe that Casazza saw precisely what Thompson photographed. In a little-known, tape recorded interview conducted several months after the events with amateur astronomer Lloyd Mallan, Chief Casazza finally (after great prodding) admits the details of the UFO that he himself had witnessed:

“The strangest part of it was that there was no noise attached to this object. None whatsoever. It was absolutely silent. A silent light." "What color was this light?"

I wanted to know. "It was a bright white light. It was funnel-shaped. It seemed to come out of some object, like a funnel. In other words, it spread out as if it were focused through a telescope. It was narrow at one end in the sky and spread out into a very wide beam as it approached our upper gate house at the Dam." "In other words," I said, "this wasn't just a flat light? It had a shape." He nodded. "Just like a funnel." "Sort of like an upside down funnel?" I asked. He nodded again, this time with vigor. "That's just exactly what it looked like.”

Thompson himself was also interviewed by Lloyd Mallan. Thompson states that –just like his colleague Charles Theodora- he also witnessed the UFO three different times in 1966. One of these sightings is described thusly:

“Oh, it lit up the reservoir like you were two feet from the water pointing a very bright spotlight on it.” Mallan relates that Thompson said that “it had a suction effect upon the water over which it passed.”

When one examines the alleged Wanaque “beam shot” photo, it is apparent that the Chief Casazza was describing exactly what is depicted in the controversial image:

A bright white light inverted funnel coming down from the UFO and spreading out a very wide beam near the Dam.

Similarly, Thompson describes the very thing seen in the photo:

A very bright spotlight pointed on the reservoir and suctioning up the water.

To my knowledge, these are the only two Police Officers at the time that described what is depicted so precisely in the beam photo. Others that had made similar descriptions were Reservoir personnel and citizens. There can now be little doubt that the photos were taken by – or with the knowledge of - these two officers and that they were conflicted about wanting to get the story out versus the need to respect the Air Force’s directive to hush. I believe that this is why the photos were released in the way in which they were to August Roberts in 1967 - quietly and without credit for this reason.

It is also now almost certain that the Wanaque photographs are Polaroids. This may reduce the probative value if the originals are found. Polaroids do not have negatives which could be analyzed for tampering. That said, inroads are being made to locate the original photographs believed to be with descendant families.

If we concede that the photos were taken by NJ cops, can we agree that these same cops did not fake them? I believe that we can. The behavior, secrecy and furtiveness of some of the police surrounding the event is obvious. Some of them cooperated with the Air Force (according to Officer Theodora.) And they did not have the technical know-how (the station had only recently even received the cameras, according to Theodora.)

There certainly was no satisfaction gained from the photos. No money was taken for their publication. Tourism in the area did not rise. And the photos themselves were –until recently- nearly lost to history. I believe that August Roberts told the truth: He was given the photos by a NJ Police Officer, with no money exchanged on any end. Roberts did not even copyright the photos. And no names were ever associated with them, until now.

‘WANAQUE UFO’ FILMED IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD?

As incredibly strange as the events at Wanaque in 1966 were- they may not be unique to that area or to that time. Other, very similar UFOs have been filmed in places as far away as Argentina and Switzerland and as recently as this month! These amorphous, bright-light craft have 1) an extreme affinity for bodies of water and can 2) also “beam down” rays of intense light to Earth. Of course I do not vouch for the authenticity of these videos and they may be spurious. But they seem to be representative of something that has been witnessed by many over the years:

Here we see an extraordinary clip taken in Chanf, Switzerland on October 1, 1996.

Chanf lies directly on the beautiful Inn River in the Swiss canton of Graubuden. Note the blue orbs, one of which projects down a beam in front of a beach house:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbZwmEA6AD0

Below is a UFO filmed over Germany on August 3, 2011 that shines a spotlight from its underneath. The view is clearly from buildings that are located directly on a river:

http://www.examiner.com/unexplained-phenomena-in-national/bright-ufo-lights-up-german-city-on-august-3-2011-video

In this video we see a UFO fire a beam over Rosario, Argentina on January 20, 2009. Rosario lies directly on a river as well- the Parana River:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujZx_Vw14bI

WHAT HAPPENED AT WANAQUE?

Wanaque may have been a “Window.” It may have represented the rarest of places – a vortex - where things that were “not from here” came to Earth. Perhaps it was a portal by which those from the unknown world entered the known. It was a place where things “flew in” to frighten. Or maybe to enlighten.

Roswell’s Memory Metal: The Air Force Comments; NASA Gets Involved & New Clues Are Found by Anthony Bragalia

Copyright 2011, InterAmerica, Inc.

The “memory metal” debris found at the UFO crash site at Roswell in 1947 was both the conceptual and the technical impetus for today’s “Shape Memory Alloys” or “Morphing Metals” such as Nitinol. The Roswell debris was analyzed by Battelle Memorial Institute in the late 1940’s under a Wright-Patterson Air Force contract. These historical truths were established in a years-long (and continuing) investigation which has been detailed in the second edition of the book Witness to Roswell and which has been updated, expanded upon and defended in the following articles, originally appearing on the UFO Iconoclasts website:

“Roswell Debris Confirmed as Extraterrestrial: Lab Located, Scientists Named” (May 26,2009)

“Roswell Metal Scientist: The Curious Dr. Cross” (May 31, 2009)

“The Final Secrets of Roswell’s Memory Metal Revealed” (June 7,2009)

“Scientist Admits to Study of Roswell Crash Debris” (August 16, 2009)

“Roswell, Battelle & Memory Metal: The New Revelations” (August 8, 2010)

Now this author reveals for the first time:

- NASA’s extraordinary and telling interest in morphing metals research and why this is so
- The US Air Force’s opinion on the Roswell-Nitinol Connection
- The reason that the memory metal is the vital clue to the solution to both the Roswell crash and the entire UFO mystery
- Further insight into the astounding history, significance and “meaning” of the memory metal

This line of investigation continues to bring forth additional documents, witnesses and circumstantial evidence which supports the fact that an unknown craft of unknown origin -and comprised of previously unknown materials- crashed to Earth over six decades ago. It also confirms that the overriding concern was to find out what the craft was made of.

NASA AND THE MEMORY METAL

The official “co-inventor” of Nitinol shape memory alloy at the US Naval Labs (along with Fred Wang) was William Buehler. In an authorized Oral History, Buehler complained that after his “discovery” that is was the space agency NASA that “independently retained Battelle” to “conduct further characterization studies” on Nitinol.

And this makes complete sense. The memory metal was inspired by the materials of construction from a spacecraft found at Roswell. This means that the material must have application in aerospace. And indeed it does. Today, NASA itself plans to apply the material in its most revolutionary and technologically advanced craft ever developed. And even more incredibly, the memory metal itself may hold the clue to “Free Energy” and interstellar propulsion using Nitinol Heat Engines! Recent research confirms that Roswell’s memory metal is going back into space, the Outer Space from which it originated.

NASA’s Langley Research Center in VA is key to this endeavor. Its Center for Excellence in Materials is working feverishly on Shape Changing aircraft. The following video demonstrates this fact- and that they want to transfer this technology to industry:

Short Video on NASA & “Intelligently Adaptive” Materials for Spaceflight

Dr. Anna McGowan is NASA’s Program Director for Morphing Materials. She is a champion of such materials because they “allow change from one configuration to another.” In a recent interview (that did not mention potential Roswell-impetus) McGowan expanded on these themes.

She states that this “change” can have real-world applications in the development of advanced spacecraft. By having shape-changing craft, one can control drag reduction, load reduction, noise reduction and the control of sensors and actuators using such material. Most importantly, such material may one day be used as the basis for a “self-healing spacecraft skin” which can repair itself. Such morphing allows the craft to “remember” prior configurations or “remember” itself for future function. When the material can morph, the shape of the craft can be changed to best suit the environment in which it traverses. And such a material can “self-disguise” aircraft and spacecraft- allowing it to “confuse” onlookers.

McGowan participated in a workshop in France in 2007 entitled “Aerospace Workshop on Adaptive Aerospace Structures and Materials” which you can view here:

WORKSHOP PROGRAMME

She explains that emphasis should be placed on the range of potential Shape Memory materials such as alloys, polymers and composite constructions. Of course the debris at Roswell was described as “like both metal and plastic (polymer)” by several witnesses. And incredibly, General George Schulgen (in a Secret Memo composed just months after the Roswell crash) wrote to select staff on the potential “Items of Construction” of UFOs that they were likely of “composite construction.”

McGowan then goes on to say that specific attention must be applied to the extreme challenges of “processing and fabrication” of such materials. In this same Secret Memo from General Schulgen in 1947 he speaks specifically of UFO material being made “by unusual fabrication methods.” General Arthur Exon, Base Commander of Wright Patterson in the 1960s (who was Roswell-aware) commented to author Kevin Randle of the debris that he had learned that “the processing of the material was somehow different.”

Sixty four years after the Roswell crash, the US government is still grappling with the challenges of Nitinol and Shape Memory. Although engineers and scientists have conducted countless studies, have composed numerous white papers and have diagrammed and micro-photographed such material for decades, the precise mechanisms behind “material that remembers itself” has yet to be fully understood.

NASA has a long history of conducting materials science and engineering experiments in space. Many of these studies remain classified. This author has reason to believe that NASA took Nitinol into space for secret experimentation. Emerging information indicates that it was placed in specialized testing chambers during the Space Shuttle and Space Station missions in the 1990s. The weightlessness and gravity-free environment of Outer Space may have revealed clues to the “strange fabrication and processing” as well as insight into just how and why material can “morph.” More on this will be reported in a future article.

Finally, Nitinol -or morphing memory metals- may hold the clue to cosmic propulsion and potentially infinite energy. NASA (and other government entities including the US Naval Labs in MD where Nitinol was “invented”) have been quietly working on “Nitinol Heat Engines.” Work on such engines as to date been largely theoretical. In the video below, the basic principles of such a Nitinol Heat Engine are showed in model-scale:

Nitinol Heat Engine (Table-Top Model)

By using dual hot water/cold water chambers and a unique pulley system, the Nitinol wire’s precise cycle of continuous shrinkage and expansion makes the “water wheel” spin perpetually in motion.

However this author has learned that NASA has been working on Nitinol Engines for space propulsion for over 20 years! A December 1, 1988 document (declassified and entitled “Direct Conversion Technology”) features a chapter beginning on Page 29, “Thermoelastic Convertors-Nitinol Engines.” Though the report is generated by the US Department of Energy (interestingly authored by a scientist from EG&G, a company recently Roswell-implicated) the report is not a DOE report. Buried within the document we learn that this work was done “through an agreement with NASA” and that “the work herein was performed by NASA.”

THE US AIR FORCE RESPONDS TO THE ROSWELL- NITINOL CLAIMS

This author has heard from a former US Air Force official about the Roswell-Memory Metal scenario. Colonel Richard Weaver is the author of the official Air Force’s 1994 debunking report “The Roswell Report: Case Closed.” He contacted me on April 27th, 2011 in reply to my email to him. Weaver held several high-level roles in intelligence (and in disinformation operations) with the USAF and he now heads a corporate security consulting firm. He commented at some length on my Roswell memory metal “angle” :

“Very interesting material, Mr. Bragalia. And you have obviously done a great deal of research on this particular topic, to which I must confess that I am almost totally ignorant.” Weaver continues by explaining to me that he never thought to thoroughly investigate the reports of memory metal found at Roswell: “Until actually looking up those terms (Nitinol, shape memory) in Google/Wikipedia, I had no previous knowledge of them… I was though aware of various claims made by Jesse Marcel, Jr. and others about and amazing material that sprung back to its original shape after having been wadded up.”

I asked Weaver if he had ever examined any of the National Laboratories (like Sandia) or its contract-operators (like Battelle Memorial Institute) for “clues” during his Roswell investigation. If there was material recovered from the site, it makes absolute sense that such material would be analyzed by such labs. Weaver admits the government’s failure to do so:

“We had no charter or authority to examine any records stored or maintained by any of the National Laboratories- that would have been up to the GAO.” Weaver excuses their neglect in doing so by saying: “Their purpose was to search for existing records …and not conduct an investigation of every claim that has been made concerning the event.”

This author is convinced that had the GAO and USAF Roswell investigations were more genuinely “investigative” – to include examining the records and talking to the former employees of our National Laboratories- that the Roswell mystery would have been long-solved. I asked Weaver if he knew then what he does now about this Roswell avenue of investigation what he would think about Nitinol. He responded:

“Based upon the descriptions that I have found for the material ‘Nitinol’, I would say that the foil-like material used in the Rawin targets (of Project Mogul), while flexible, did not meet the description of the characteristics for the alloy Nitinol.”

Weaver still believes that the Roswell crash was resultant from an errant Project Mogul balloon. But he clearly finds this information fascinating and that it was “reasonable research upon which reasonable men can disagree.”

OTHER HISTORICAL MENTIONS OF UFO “MEMORY METAL”

There are in fact other (though very rare) mentions of such memory metal in the historical UFO literature that this author has uncovered:

Researcher Leonard Stringfield wrote in a book in 1978 called “Situation Red” of such a report. He recounts the story of MD in Argentina who said that he had encountered a landed UFO in 1950. Stringfield writes, “He was also amazed at the skin of the saucer, which was metallic in appearance, but had a ‘rubbery’ feel to it.” Researcher Coral Lorenzon tells of the same incident in his 1966 “Flying Saucers: The Startling Evidence” and says that the Doctor “said that the disk appeared metallic but had the resilience of rubber.” Of course the skin of the alien spacecraft sounds suspiciously like what was reported at Roswell, having the power to return to its original form or position after being bent, compressed or stressed.

Although a more “esoteric” story, in 1957 Cynthia Appleton of Birmingham, UK reported an encounter that she had with an alien presence. This report is recounted online and in the UFO literature. Cynthia asked the “presence” why there were visiting our Earth. She got the reply that “We have to visit your world to obtain something of which we are running out.” When she later attempted to recall the name of the material they wanted to recover, she thought that they might have said “Titium” (tite-ee-um). When she told her husband this, who knew his way around metals, he replied “You mean Titanium.” Of course “Titanium” is one of the two essential elements need to create the memory metal Nitinol. And when researcher Kevin Randle asked General Arthur Exon of Wright Patterson what metal/s were used in the Roswell debris, Exon specifically referred to Titanium.

Former engineer Ralph Ring claims in an online video interview that consciousness and morphing metal have a great deal to do with interstellar travel. Ring was associated with the very controversial inventor Otis T. Carr in the late 1950s. Carr was, in this author’s opinion, a self-taught scientist who was onto great discoveries but who was also an “over-claimer,” greedy and alcoholic. Carr made attempts at the development of an interstellar spacecraft utilizing electro-magnetic and electro-gravity propulsion concepts. He even constructed several prototypes. Engineer Ring states that when they powered up the craft, Carr counseled them to achieve a certain pre-arranged “mental state.” As the power wound up and they achieved they desired “state” Ring said, “The metal turned to rubber and it was resilient to the touch.” He says that it was like “rubber metal.” There is an amazing parallel to this story, one that is verified: In the early 1970s the US Navy Labs’ Fred Wang (co-inventor of Nitinol) tested a psychic’s ability to bend or morph Nitinol using mental energy.

MEMORY METAL’S “MEANING” TO UFOS

What material could be better for an interstellar vehicle that one that could provide its own energy source, disguise itself at will, work in all environments and be able to heal itself when compromised? Perhaps there is “Intelligent Material” of which the UFO is made that is so “malleable” that it may be able to change state, allowing for interstellar travel. Morphing is key to cosmic transport. The craft’s material must be eminently adaptable, changing and restructuring itself at the crystalline and molecular levels- and likely even at the interdimensional level. It may be both physical and paraphysical. Though the craft are comprised of elements and are comprised of ‘material’ - they are also ‘amorphous’ and in some way must manipulate time and space. So the material must be able to “change up” instantly and at will. It must morph. Here we see in the video below an example of a morphing UFO. This is a stabilized version of the video. Though some believe it to be of balloons, I do not think so- and there are countless (and increasing) examples of such craft in our skies beyond this video, whatever one may think of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT2IInYnceA&feature=related
Morphing UFO Video

WHY THE VERY “IDEA” OF MEMORY METAL HELPS PROVE ROSWELL

The Roswell memory metal revelations have been met with the gamut of responses from far and wide. But it is one, simple, small post that was made on an online discussion group related to unexplained mysteries that gave me pause. This individual made an extraordinarily perceptive comment on that site and it has stuck with me. Its beauty is in its simplicity:

“When you have a number of people from different locations of the country identifying the exact same exotic properties of the materials recovered from New Mexico, then there is no room left for claims of ‘active imaginations’ because these folks were all singing to the same tune of the exotic nature of the materials, which were not known at the time, and were alien to mankind.”

In other words, they described a material with such unusual properties years before such material became known to the general public (or would even have been invented!) The very fact that many credible first-hand witnesses recounted a remarkable metal that would “remember itself” is in and of itself remarkable. Not only was such a material never even speculated on (even in cartoons) in 1947- most people today in 2011 would have no idea what you were talking about! Remember that even Colonel Richard Weaver of the USAF himself told me that he had never even heard of Nitinol or Shape Memory alloys in his life before my articles! Well then how would 80+ year old Roswell witnesses know about Nitinol? Even if they were recounting it in 1980? What would even possess such elderly and rural people in the first place to conceive of such an idea as “morphing metal”? What would even make them think of such a thing unless it did not actually happen? What would instill such a novel idea as “moving metal” into so many different people –separated now by time, years and distance- had they not seen it? It simply makes no sense whatsoever. In fact, I strongly suspect that if one were to conduct a national poll of US adults, far less than a half-percent would have ever heard of Nitinol- or be able to in any way define “shape recovery.”

Metal in Motion-Who Thinks of These Things?

MATERIAL IS NOT IMMUTABLE

There is of course a far “deeper” meaning to the memory metal. It is found within the illusive intricacies of the “morph” itself- the one that scientists toil today to understand. Such material represents the potential for change and the need for intelligent adaptation. Without it, life ceases.

And more concretely, we live in an ever-changing Universe. In order to traverse it, the material we use to do so must be able to “change” as well. If galactic flight exists, matter must not be immutable. It must be able to change state- and then “remember” its original form. It must morph. Our linear thinking makes it difficult to conceive of such “malleable matter” - which is why our very mind’s relationship with matter must change if we are to ever enter the Interstellar Age.

WITNESS TO WANAQUE: THE GREATEST “MASS UFO SIGHTING” NEVER TOLD BY Anthony Bragalia

Copyright 2011, InterAmerica, Inc.

In the mid-1960s a UFO terrified a small New Jersey town. On a clear and cold mid-winter night, the community was infiltrated and “beamed upon” by rays that shot downward from a brilliant and eerie object. Over the decades the event has seemed to have faded from view for reasons that remain very murky. There are those who are no doubt very happy about this. But a closer examination of the event today reveals it to be the most credible and exceptional “mass sighting” of a UFO anywhere in all of human history. The sheer number of highly credible individuals who reported the sighting astounds.

More significantly, the event was apparently photographed by the frightened. These extremely rare, little-seen images are controversial, and they are shown here.

Digging deeper this author has found records indicating that the US Government was concerned about ‘imposter military men’ that had infiltrated the community to suppress or dissuade them from reporting anything further on the incident. This may be another reason why this great mass UFO sighting is not so well known by the masses (or even many in the UFO research community.)

Finally, this author has also located and contacted an original witness from when the event occurred. In retirement he reluctantly confirms that the object that he saw (and remembers well, even 45 years later) was not of Earth.

THE UFO THAT TERRIFIED A TOWN

WANAQUE DAM AREA IN NJ, 1966

On January 11, 1966 in Wanaque, New Jersey (located in Passaic County) a bizarre and disturbing event began to unfold over this town of less than ten thousand. Most of the activity took place around the Wanaque Dam and the community’s key water resources. The event lasted about two and a half hours (6:20-8:58 PM) and it was seen by dozens of individuals. The police were flooded with incoming reports on the aerial object from around a 20-mile radius.

The UFO was reported as:

- Very white but occasionally changing colors, including red, blue and green
- Exceedingly bright and shining, but not flickering or twinkling
- Much larger than any star, at times appearing to assume an irregular egg-shaped, fuzzy structure (and described as perhaps the size of about “10 bright stars clumped together”)
- Gliding “low and oddly” across the vast frozen and semi-frozen waters, seemingly in a deliberate “pattern” (described by some as a circular pattern and sometimes maneuvering side to side and up and down.)
- Flying as low as 250 fifty feet above to as high as 1000 feet above witnesses
- Moving at moderate to fast speeds in complete silence (with no sound of motor or engine) and occasionally hovering or floating for periods of time
- Finally, zooming out of view at extreme speed after its “survey” of the area

But by far and away the most amazing and important feature reported about the UFO is this:

During the duration of the sighting, the object would periodically shoot large beams of light from a porthole down towards the ice near the Wanaque Dam and the town’s reservoir and water resource facilities. The beams would then create holes in the ice as if they were burning through the freeze of winter with precision and ease! How mere “light” could do this (unless it was a laser or unknown energetic technology) is not understood. Sgt. Ben Thompson (see list of witnesses below) reported the UFO’s strange ability to suck together tree tops and to cause a rise in the reservoir’s water level.

WHO SAW ALL OF THIS?

Scores and scores of people from the town said that they saw parts of the event or the entire episode. These people include the Mayor, several Councilmen, numerous Law Enforcement personnel, the Reservoir Police and even a high-ranking Catholic nun.

This author has reviewed what little historical literature is available on the sighting. This includes a review of papers and other periodicals from 1966-1967 including: The New York Journal-American; the APRO Bulletin; NICAP Notes by Otto Binder, 1966; UFO Investigator Vol. III No. 6 Jan-Feb 1966 and area NJ and Tri-State newspapers (i.e. Newark News and the Star Ledger.) The list of key witnesses (included in brief interviews in newspapers at the time) are:

- Mayor Harry T. Wolfe and his Son Billy
- Councilmen Warren Hagstrom, Arthur Barton and John Shuttle
- Civil Defense Administrators Bentley Spencer and Richard Vrooman
- Chief of Police Floyd Elson
- Officer George Dyckman
- Patrolman Joe Cisco
- Sgt. Bobby Gordon (Pompton Lakes Police)
- Sgts. Ben Thompson and David Sisco
- Patrolmen Edward Nestor and Jack Wardlaw
- Reservoir Police & Personnel George Destito, Charles Theodora, Fred Steines
- The Mother Superior of a Local Convent

Other witnesses named in the Press at the time include two teenagers (Sloat and Melegrae) and Newark College of Engineering student John DiGiamoco as well as some of the wives and children of those listed above. It was reported that by night’s end, the Police Department had received “dozens” of phone call reports of the object from different locations and vantage points from surrounding areas. The early reports had apparently instigated town officials to convene at the Dam to see the sight for themselves. Of course not everyone saw all of the more spectacular aspects of the incident, with some only reporting less impressive “anomalies” depending on when they arrived, from where they viewed.

WHAT THEY SAID

Key quotes about the event that I have found by combing though and culling reports from newspapers in the days following the event include:

Mayor Wolfe, who would characterize the whole thing by saying that “the phenomena was terribly strange.”

Officer George Dyckman: “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.”

Reservoir employee Fred Steines stated: “A bolt of light shot down from it as if attracted to the water, like a beam emitted from a portal.”

Councilman Warren Hagstrom: “We got goose bumps all over when we saw where the hole was.”

Patrolman Joe Cisco (recorded on police radio): “Something landed in front of the dam. Something’s burning a hole in the ice! Something with a bright light on it, going up and down!”

THE UFO THAT TERRIFIED THE TOWN - PHOTOGRAPHED?

The extraordinary and rare photograph featured at the top of this article is said to be an actual image taken of the Wanaque UFO. It appears to be emitting a downward beam of “structured” light.

The beam is large, dense and “engineered” (as shown in its extreme angularity.) You can view an enlargement of the UFO/Beam photo here:

Click here for full size photo

The light beam was said to have been “energetic” and could pierce or burn through the ice. Others saw the beam’s reflection on the ice and only that it was somehow impacting its surface. None of those who photographed the Wanaque UFO and beams wished to have their names publicly identified. Some of the photographs found their way to the late UFO researcher August C. Roberts.

Over 45 years after the original event, this author has located an original witness to Wanaque found mentioned in early-published reports. The witness (who prefers not to be publicly identified) replied it that though he is not 100% certain, it does appear “very similar” to what he has seen as a young man those many years ago.

Given the sheer number of highly reputable people who saw this event, it is inconceivable that more photographs were not taken. It is perhaps as great a mystery as the UFO itself: How could an event witnessed by scores of people for over two hours not have resulted in far more captured images of the craft? This is particularly odd given that many of the witnesses were law enforcement officials on patrol. This author has reason to believe that many Wanaque UFO photos (and perhaps film) were suppressed or remain in private, nervous hands to this very day.

THE FEW OTHER PHOTOS THAT MADE IT OUT

Series of Five Photos Taken at Wanaque and Published by Dell

Dell Publishing in NY (now Bantam/Random House) received a series of 5 black and white photos after the Wanaque event claiming to be of the craft and beam seen there. The submitter wished no acknowledgement and did not seek any compensation. Dell published the photos and, accompanying them, a very brief article in the 1967 issue of its publication, UFO Reports.

The photograph of the UFO and beam featured at the beginning of this article appears to be what could be yet another photo of this Dell series, but not included in the article. It appears similar to the fifth photo appearing in the Dell article, but it also reveals more view and detail (including an “interaction” between the water and the bottom of the beam.)

I am not aware of the location of the negatives (given they exist) nor the identity of the photographer/s who took these intriguing images. Though I cannot vouch for their authenticity, at least one of the witnesses contacted thought that there was a good similarity to what was seen at Wanaque (see interview below.)

They could though be “fakes” made after the event to simulate what had happened at Wanaque. Or perhaps they are of a similar event.

Or perhaps even still, they are genuine. They were sent to private researcher August Roberts and to Dell anonymously. They wanted to get them out, but perhaps feared potential retribution or unwanted attention. I intend on locating other of the known witnesses to see if they will or will not collaborate the photos as possible images of what was really seen at Wanaque.

THE “MIB” INTIMIDATE WANAQUE WITNESSES

This author has learned that unknown men posing as military officials descended upon Wanaque in the period after the sighting to intimidate and dissuade talk about the UFO. And the source for this is the U.S. Pentagon itself! Found buried in the defunct civilian UFO research organization’s publication APRO Bulletin (Jan-Feb, 1967) is a detailing of these “MIB” visits.

“Men dressed in uniforms or bearing credentials from government agencies have been silencing witnesses to the UFO at Wanaque. According to Pentagon spokesman Colonel George P. Freeman, ‘These men are not connected to the Air Force in any way.’ He cited a recent case in which the police officers and other witnesses at sightings in Wanaque, NJ and told them they had seen nothing and should not discuss the incident. Whoever he was, he wasn’t’ from the Air Force,’ Freeman stated.”

This helps to account for the lack of subsequent details or real investigation and the apparent absence of photographs of the event taken by those who would let their names be used.

THE SAME THING HAPPENS TWO HOURS AWAY ON SAME DAY

According to a 1966 civilian UFO research organization NICAP report by John Pagano found by this author, on January 11, 1966 at 7:45 p.m. – on the very same day and at the very same time- as the Wanaque, NJ sighting, another, similar sighting was taking place in Myerstown, PA, about two hundred miles from Wanaque. A nurse and others together in a car saw a luminous disc, like one saucer inverted on top of another, at relatively close range as it hovered above the car. After about five minutes, the object suddenly accelerated and sped away. The precise timing of the two sightings at the same time, the “luminosity” of the object, its being seen at close range and hovering – as well as its abrupt acceleration away - are all uncannily reminiscent of Wanaque.

THE SIGHTINGS CONTINUED

WANAQUE RIVER AND RAYMOND DAM TODAY

On October 15, 1966, less than a week after the original Wanaque sighting, Police Chief John Casazza with the Reservoir Force said that he and his friend Bob Dexter witnessed a strange sight in the air at about 10:40 at night behind some hills on the dam. According to an interview he conducted with early researcher Lloyd Mallan, he said, “it was shaped like an ellipse, but was flatter on the bottom and more round at the top. In length, it appeared three times larger than the Moon. It gave off kind of a light. White light. It was not flashing or blinking. Casazza send the craft was noiseless and moved slowly and then very fast out of view.

According to November 1966 issue of UFO Investigator from civilian research organization NICAP, later in the year in Wanaque (on October 10, 1966 at 9:15 PM) police officers observed a spherical object with a protrusion on one side emitting an extremely bright blinding light that lit up the terrain (environmental illumination.) The UFO hovered and moved around erratically at high speeds, making sharp turns and leaving a misty trail in its wake when it moved. Even the intervening decades Wanaque has had other similar aerial anomalies involving very brightly lit objects, including one the was reportedly filmed in 1992.

A WITNESS SPEAKS TODAY

This author located and spoke with a first-hand witness to the event who was a young Wanaque man in 1966 who was mentioned in the news at the time. This witness, not wishing disruption or re-involvement four and a half decades hence, agreed to talk on the condition of anonymity. Excerpts of what he said recently to me are telling:

“I remember the thing very well. I still do not know what it was. I think about it from time to time, but it’s no use because it doesn’t bring me any closer to knowing what it was.”

“Maybe things that aren’t from here aren’t meant to be understood by us here.” He added, “ask anyone who will tell you , it was not a helicopter or something astronomical. It was…not…from our military or something we misidentified. It was a UFO, from somewhere else.”

“The beams or ray thing that came out from the bottom of the glob (globe?) was the thing that got to me. It made the light cut the ice out. It frightened us kids. And I’m sure the adults. Because we don’t have anything like that even today.”

“The adults didn’t really speak much about it after the initial thing that I could tell. I’d talk about it with my friends some time later and one of them told me that people came around to not say anything.”

(On the emailed alleged photo of the Wanaque UFO and beam): “I am not 100%. I saw it from a different perspective. And not that close up or with a camera lens. But it is very similar to certain times when I saw it. The beam or huge ray, it kind of changed shape and the main body had a haze . Now that you are mentioning it, I have always wondered why none of the adults there, like the police, released any photos. They had to have had them taken. And the Reservoir police had cameras too. It went on for so long-people could have gone and come back to get one.”

Perhaps additional witnesses will be found to help clarify the mysterious night all those years ago. Maybe they can recall if these images remind them of what they saw.

MILITARY DENIALS AND EXPLANATIONS OFFERED

Though the US military denied having knowledge of the Wanaque affair, this is directly contradicted by Sgt Bobby Gordon of the Pompton Lakes Police Force, who was an eye-witness. About 15 minutes after the “main event” and the craft had left, Gordon said, he saw the abrupt and mysterious appearance of seven helicopters and 10 or so high-performance jets over the Wanaque Reservoir. Gordon believes that these overflights were no coincidental to the sightings of the strange UFO. Gordon said that he did not report this to the Air Force as he said “I had enough aggravation on my job, so that I don’ have to go outside to get it.”

1960s UFO researcher Llloyd Mallan conducted a private investigation of the incident. He called numbers of officials to see if they would lay claim to the overflight of US aircraft in the wake of the Wanaque sighting. The U.S. Navy, FAA, US Coast Guard, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and other Air Bases and the US Coast Guard all denied knowledge of any such flights. Mallan believed that the military scrambled to investigate and to learn more about a craft that was not their own.

And some of skeptical inclination have offered up several ill-conceived and far-reaching “answers” or solutions to the true nature of the Wanaque sightings. Though few if any proffer a hoax explanation, some have said it was:

A Balloon

McGuire AFB in Wrightstown speculated it was a weather balloon that traveled from Kennedy International Airport, which the Pentagon initially agreed with. Later McGuire said it was not and the Pentagon offered a new explanation

Venus and Jupiter

The Pentagon later offered that these planets were in alignment creating a strange effect

Helicopters or other Aircraft

Stewart AFB in Newburgh, NY said it was a helicopter with a powerful beacon on a night mission. They later “soft-pedaled” on this explanation, likely realizing all of the other conflicting “real reasons” given for the sighting by other officials

Ball Lightning

“Ball lightning” was offered as an explanation to Wanaque when the question was posed to arch-skeptic Phil Klass by a researcher. But ball lightning is a very rare form of lightning. It can appear white, spherical and luminous and even pierce window pane. However the duration of the phenomenon is typically no longer that two minutes –not two hours like the sighting at Wanaque. And ball lighting forms are typically no more than eight inches. At the extreme outset they have been seen briefly at a meter or so in diameter- but not several feet in diameter, as at Wanaque. And the craft at Wanaque remained “formed” with fuzzy “structure” whereas ball lighting rather quickly “peters out” into nothingness. And ball lightning cannot float, dart, travel in circles and up and down in a pattern. Lastly, ball lightning cannot shoot sharp beams out of itself, emitting beam-like structures. As a 10 year old boy, this author experienced ball lightning. My mother was on one side of the living room and I on the other. A terrific summer storm was raging. Then, out of nowhere, a “energy ball” of light about the size of a small fist pierced through our picture window and streaked in an instant to a light socket, which sparked and burned. No way was this like Wanaque.

Every single witness ever contacted disagrees with all of these “explanations.” All say that none in any way account for what was viewed at relatively close range for a long time. They insist that it was not a manmade craft (it was silent and blinding, making impossible maneuvers) or a celestial body (though it was the size of “10 stars”) nor was it ball lightening (though it shot from its underside strange, large and powerful light beams.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE MASS SIGHTNG AT WANAQUE

We have learned many things about Wanaque:

One truth is that there was very little meaningful investigation done at the time about this astounding aerial encounter. Project Blue Book and the Air Force did nothing substantial, if at all. Military or intelligence did not make contact with witnesses to conduct in-depth interviews and to perform on-site investigations (at least that we know of.) No one was officially dispatched to technically evaluate the UFO beam’s impact on the ice. No water samples were taken, no deep-freeze divers were ordered down, and no radiation testing was conducted. Indeed the only ones that seemed interested were media, and then only briefly. And it was largely local coverage with limited follow-up and no real independent investigative reporting. It even had limited mention in the UFO press. It gets no mention at all in most all of the major UFO encyclopedias today for instance.

The other truth learned is that very large numbers of very credible people reported very identical things at the very same time. None of them has ever gained or sought any fame or reward for telling their piece of what they know.

And what else is known is that pictures that had to have been taken were never made openly public. Those that may have, as show here, unfortunately have no provenance. Others may have been suppressed or confiscated. The reason that this is so (and that even today why many are reticent to discuss the event in detail) is that some in the community were intimidated by real or imposter military authorities who warned them not to say much.

Finally we learn that if the craft that visited and brought rays down upon Wanaque was not military, nor any type of craft made by people, and not a stellar or atmospheric aberration. It hovered and maneuvered silently at will in a deliberate pattern. It was intelligently controlled. It blinded with its intense white and colored lights. It was amorphous, changing fuzzily from structure to energetic glob. It shot forth with precision some form of unusual light energy capable of piercing and carving winter ice. It entranced those who saw it. And then it left in a near instant. It was out of everyone’s vision. But it would forever emblazon everyone’s mind with the sight of the unearthly.

Indeed this “weirdness at Wanaque” was so alien that one can only conclude that it was just that…Alien.

AREA 51 BOOK EXPOSED: SOURCE FOR ROSWELL STORY NAMED AND INTERVIEWED! by Anthony Bragalia

Annie Jacobsen’s recently released bestseller Area 51 has stirred global interest. She has been featured numerous times on many networks and websites. Her book was reviewed last week by the New York Times. Jacobsen’s biggest “scoop” concerns the Roswell crash. She learned from an early executive of one of our nation’s largest defense contractors that the Roswell crash of 1947 was resultant from a scheme by Russia’s Josef Stalin and escaped Nazi mad-scientist Josef Mengele to “hoax” the Americans by staging UFO sightings. The plan was to induce panic and psychological warfare in the manner of the Orson Welles War of the World broadcast aftermath. They would launch unusually-designed craft from a “mothership” (located near Alaska.) These were single-wing, remote-controlled “UFOs” with “alien-like” children on board. The craft were of Nazi German design (captured by the Soviets at the close of the War) and the “aliens” were actually 13 year olds. The grotesque child aviators were biologically engineered by Mengele with strange large heads and oddly spaced eyes. The craft and pilots had crashed near Roswell in July of 1947 and were flown to Wright Field. In 1951, Jacobsen’s source maintains, the crashed vehicle and the two still-surviving deformed children were taken to Area 51 and to the facilities of defense contractor EG&G (now URS Corporation)

This author has identified and located Annie Jacobsen’s anonymous source. I have also decided, after much consideration, to “out” him. In this article I will openly name him. I have also contacted him very recently. He reluctantly spoke with me for some time. I believe that the source was indeed told this bizarre story by officials. But just why this is so will stun readers, and is not for the reasons that you may think.

JACOBSEN’S SOURCE NAMED

EG&G’s Scientist Alfred O’Donnell in 1955

Ms. Jacobsen’s source about this Roswell story is unnamed by her in the blockbuster book. He wanted to remain anonymous. Annie Jacobsen kept her promise. I did not learn her source from her or from anyone associated with her publishing company. His identity and his background is revealed here and now:

Alfred O’Donnell is nearly 89 years old and he is one of Annie Jacobsen’s key sources about this Roswell crash story “interpretation.” O’Donnell is indeed exactly who he claims to have been. In the early 1950’s he was at the “Nevada Test Site” where atomic bombs were tested regularly. O’Donnell was indeed part of the nucleus of top management and engineers for EG&G- one of our nation’s top defense contractors. Founded as Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier (EG&G) the company was acquired by URS Corporation some years ago. URS employs over 50,000 and is the leading designer and builder of federal classified facilities in the United States. They work with military as well as with the Intelligence Community (particularly the NSA) in constructing and operating some of our nation’s most sensitive and secret facilities.

O’Donnell joined EG&G in 1947 when the company employed only 15 people. He worked alongside the company’s founders and obtained Top Secret Clearance to work on our nation’s nuclear arsenal. He helped to develop explosives research protocols and optimized the firing systems of bomb devices. O’Donnell – a Bostonian - is a brilliant man who made significant contributions to EG&G and to our nation’s defense for many years. EG&G – and O’Donnell - had specialized expertise in electronically capturing and measuring the energy that was emitted from DOE nuclear blasts in the remote Nevada desert.

THE SOURCE SPEAKS

TRANSCRIBED INTERVIEW WITH ALFRED O’DONNELL, FORMERLY OF EG&G

MAY 26, 2011 (AFTERNOON)

(Bolded text that follows indicates Alfred O’Donnell speaking;
Light text indicates this author speaking to O’Donnell)

Hello…

Hi Mr. O’Donnell, my name is Tony Bragalia, a freelance journalist in Florida..How are you doing?

Fine, and who are you again? (I repeat above)

I’m a researcher, including of things like military history and the history of science. I happened to see an online article about an ‘Alfred O’Donnell’ that was from the Review-Journal. It’s called “100 Men Who Shaped Southern Nevada” It discusses your early work at EG&G in the 50s in nuclear blast testing and measurement.

Oh, oh, yes… I do remember that. I recall that very well.

It was written by a “ K.J. Evans”…

Yes, he’s dead now. That article was written some time ago. Some years ago.

It’s found its way onto the Internet so the story is everywhere now, forever…So I do have the right Alfred O’Donnell who was with EG&G in the ‘40s and 1950s?

Yes, that’s me.

Well, of course you must be aware then of the recent bestseller by Annie Jacobsen that is entitled Area 51?

I am. (silence/pause)

You know Annie?

I do know Annie.

Well you said something to Annie Jacobsen about the subject that I’d like to talk with you about…

I don’t talk about my work at Area 51.

Well, EG&G does not seem to be the kind of place that would be reverse engineering a Soviet craft and also doing biological experiments and analysis, there were better places….

Well, you really need to speak with the Publicity Director at Little Brown.

Why them?

They published the book.

What do they know more about all of this than you do?

They don’t. But I’m not saying anything…

Tony, how…how did you find me?

I am a researcher of some of these things. I think sort of like a computer when I am investigating. I googled key words. I happened across the article on you. I knew intuitively that you are Annie’s source, Alfred. And of course you are, so…

Alfred, you must realize that you have an obligation to truth and to history to come forward publicly. This is a much larger issue. It is about having people understand what really happened -if this is what really did- and to not believe in fantasies..things that aren’t scientific or historical truth…

I know…I understand… what you’re saying, Tony.

You know Alfred, I communicated with Dr. Stirling Colgate at Los Alamos recently and he made a recent confession about a UFO hoax that he was aware of from many, many years ago.

Oh…

Colgate is in his 90s and he’s still at Los Alamos. He confirmed to me that the famous Socorro, NM case involving a policeman in 1964 was a hoax by some of his students from New Mexico Tech. But it took him over 40 years to really say something! Colgate took to a real long time to tell the truth. And he still is reluctant…but his allegiance was in the wrong place for too long. It was to his kids at the college!…

(Laughs) So how did you find out about him?

Through a letter that I had found in some archives from Stirling Colgate to his friend Linus Pauling, who had an interest in UFOs I found out. In his reply, Colgate told Pauling the truth that it was a hoax.

Who is that he wrote to?

Linus Pauling.

Oh! Yes…

So my point is that we will all pass. And because of this we all have larger obligations as we get older. As a scientist you must understand this, truth is it. It’s really all that we want have in the end.

Will you leave anything - a document in writing to benefit history and science on all of this before you pass, including your name?

I don’t know. I don’t think so.

I think you must forget about your oaths and clearances. The Soviet threat is no longer. It is more than six decades on Alfred! I sometimes almost get emotional about all of this…doesn’t, does not truth mean anything? Why have our children’s children believe in fantasy, if this is what it was?

I will think about it. I will give it some consideration…

Alfred, have other people called you about this?

I’m not going to say anything at all about that.

Well, people come to very different conclusions that you do on all of this. The Air Force says that it is a Mogul balloon, others say it was a terrestrial secret experiment by German Paperclip scientists…

Yes, I have heard about that one.

Well, I will level with you Alfred. I come down on the side of truth - it was an extraterrestrial vehicle that crashed. And frankly I think that you know this and that you were “played with.”

I am certain that the craft was constructed of materials that were not known to science in 1947. I based this on many things including on my study of the history of Shape Recovery Alloys. They had reported they found “memory metal” at Roswell that was tough and would return back to its original shape. I found that in the months immediately following the crash that Wright Patterson contracted Battelle Memorial Institute to begin work on what we now know as Nitinol. I traced the scientific documents on Shape Memory metals to the incident. When you are reverse engineering, it is always easiest to begin with the ‘materials of construction’ –what is it made of- not the propulsion or navigation systems…

Yes..I follow.

And, Alfred, I will be candid with you: you must come forward. You are a man of science. You have lived for the discovery of truth. Why do you care now? Say what needs to be said. I mean I know you have. But openly. You know Annie is taking a beating on this. I frankly would like to know, as someone who believes in truth and accurate history…you are a man who honors science…you must know what I mean…

Tony, look, I will say this to you: if the Federal Government really wanted to have all of this released, why would they not have already done it themselves?

I don’t know. But you do Alfred. And I do respect your respect for your oath and your security clearances.

If we could get you a release from the Department of Defense to speak of this- of the truth of Roswell- would you then be open to speaking openly?

No. I would not. I just…I just cannot get involved like that.

Oh, one more last thing…

Yes.

Do you think that when URS acquired EG&G a few years back that they also got all of the early scientific and historical records from EG&G? I mean would they even know now? Many of the people there at URS now weren’t yet even born when this happened…

I don’t know. I really have no idea.

Again, Alfred, I have an understanding of the Intelligence Community –IC- and of the Defense communities, so I do understand where you are coming from. Thanks for all of your time, I really do appreciate it very much…

OK, Tony, Goodbye.

Goodbye.

THE STRANGE STORY HE TELLS – AND WHY HE WAS TOLD IT

I found Alfred O’Donnell to be telling the truth as he remembers it – and likely as he himself claims to have witnessed it. He was extremely lucid, deliberate and controlled in his responses to me. Frankly he seemed years and years younger on the phone. Like author Annie Jacobsen, I find O’Donnell to remain a bright and believable person.

However, I do not believe that the “essence” of what he was told was true. O’Donnell says that he viewed a hoaxed UFO by Stalin that was used to scare us - and that used a former Nazi’s eugenics skills to create the aviators. O’Donnell told Jacobsen that they were “grotesque.” O’Donnell also told Jacobsen that he and his other scientist cohorts at EG&G were “prepared” for the sight of them. They were told in advance that “seeing the bodies would be a shocking and disturbing experience.”

But the truth is this: It was all “staged.” O’Donnell was indeed “exposed” to what he says he was- but this “exposure” was planned, it was for a reason - and the accompanying story that he was told was not genuine.

He was told that it was of Soviet origin. But “exotic technology” that has been recovered by military are often studied by using the “subterfuge” or “cover” of being told that they are of “Russian origin.” And this holds especially true for the Roswell crash. There are numerous times when the “Soviets” or the “Russians” were used to describe where such artifacts came from. They were a convenient and ideal “excuse” or reason for the study of such things:

1) When Elroy John Center (the Battelle scientist who confessed to analysis of ET metal debris and who co-authored the first “memory metal report” for Wright Patterson) was told to analyze the unusual “piece”- he was told by his Battelle supervisor that it was recovered in a crash from “the Soviets.” Center knew this not to be true and he believed the material could not have been made by man. (See prior articles on the Battelle-Roswell connection archived on the Iconoclasts site to learn more.)

2) General George Schulgen, in a 1947 secret memo, instructed his officers to be aware of UFO’s and their “Items of Construction.” He indicated that the discs could be of possible Soviet origin. Schulgen was of course using this as a cover. Forthcoming information on Schulgen will show that this top Pentagon Intelligence official of the time knew that the material of which the discs were comprised was not known to science- and were engineered by those from another world.

3) When RAAF Base Commander Butch Blanchard told his wife and daughter Dale of the crash, he kept on repeating to them: “those Russians have some amazing things.” New information from researcher Tom Carey indicates that the exact opposite was true: Blanchard actually believed that it was an ET craft at Roswell, something he related to his second wife and others later in life.

The deepest recesses of Government were testing key personnel at emerging EG&G to see if they could be entrusted with such “remarkable secrets.” Would they say anything to anyone about this made-up Russian-Roswell scenario? They did not (at least not until a half-century later, and then only anonymously.) They could be entrusted with anything. And today the company is rewarded as the largest infrastructure firm to Federal government in the nation.

More importantly this author maintains that:

- Those in Government who knew about Roswell wanted to confuse the ET truth of the event to others with whom they may work by alluding to things “Russian.” It may have even been used as a “code word” of sorts.

- They felt that it was also a perfect way to have studies performed on actual ET crashed disc material by private contractors. Tell them these strange things were Russian. Fold the research into existing defense related technology research.

- They wanted to see if organizations that they would bring into the fold would keep such a pretend ‘Secret.’ And point to the Russians, feared and hated.

- They would occasionally and selectively “test” individuals within government (and its contractor community) to measure the “reactions” and coping skills of learned men when exposed to such bizarre things

- They “orchestrated” cover stories on Roswell to purposely confuse and obfuscate the issue. They sought to blur the ET truth of Roswell with layers of plausible deniability. They officially issued (and in other ways spread) many possible “real reasons” for the Roswell crash. In this way the actual extraterrestrial nature of the Roswell event will become “muddled.”

O’Donnell was shown an American-hoaxed UFO and “aliens” for one (or some) these reasons. But it was not a “Soviet” thing that he saw. That he saw these things is likely true… but the associated story that he was told about their origin was not.

The most telling reason that this is so is this: The story told to O’Donnell those many years ago –in historical hindsight- is ludicrous on the face of it. I will not detail those reasons. Many others (including the New York Times) have pointed out the many “holes” found like Swiss cheese within the story. These include fundamental logistical, technological and historical issues associated with the cover tale told O’Donnell.

And there is this clue: O’Donnell told Jacobsen that “Cyrillic writing” found around a rim area in the craft had led he and his EG&G associates to confirm that the craft was of Soviet origin, so that the story that they were told by their superiors made complete sense.

However, the fact is that the Russians would never have made such alleged “hoax overflights” of the US using anything like “Cyrillic writing” that would reveal the craft’s true Soviet origin. It would defeat the entire purpose of having our people believe that we were being invaded by “aliens” as O’Donnell maintains, like “Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds”- and so O’Donnell should never have found such writing.

It was, rather, placed there by US military intelligence to encourage the belief that it was Russian. And O’Donnell was just 29 in 1951 when he states that he saw all of this at EG&G at Area 51. He was impressionably young, as were his EG&G colleagues. They would go on in their defense contracting careers believing all the while (and repeating late in life) the lie that they had been made to believe that these things were “Russian.” How very “Cold War-ish.”

But given the context of the timeframe of the late 1940s and early 1950s (and the fear of Russians, with “War of the Worlds” having aired only 10 years prior) it is easy to understand why O’Donnell and his EG&G colleagues “bought in” to this scenario fed them. Given the “tenor of the times” and the initiation of the Cold War, anything related to the devious Soviets could be believed at that time.

And, tellingly, the “Russian” explanation that had been told by these EG&G retirees reminds one of the famous Kecksburg, PA UFO case of 1965. Some in Government offered the (now discredited) explanation that this crash incident was resultant from a Russian launch as well. That one though was explained away as the crash of an advanced Soviet satellite. Always the Russians…

The story is strange. And the reasons that I have offered that I “believe” the old scientist may seem even stranger to some. I have more to report on this and I hope to release other findings soon…

Roswell is an onion. We continue to peel away at its layers. But it still stinks and dizzies with the stench of disinformation, even after decades.

Flying Saucers and The Descent into Madness by Anthony Bragalia

The study of mysteries can be all-engrossing. The truth about UFOs is something that is wholly unknown (or something kept cautiously concealed.) It therefore excites curiosity and wonder. We are driven to solve the seemingly unsolvable. Before he died, the noted UFO skeptic Philip Klass actually included a “curse” in his Last Will and Testament that was related to the drive to solve the UFO mystery. In his Will drawn in 1983, Klass included a bequeathal to UFO researchers:

“No matter how long you live, you will never know any more about UFOs than you know today. You will never know any more about what UFOs really are, or where they come from. You will never know any more about what the U.S. Government really knows about UFOs than you know today. As you lie on your own death-bed you will be as mystified about UFOs as you are today. And you will remember this curse.”

Will the forever “unknowable” UFO only lead one to eternal frustration, as Klass cursed? Can the study of something so very illusive - with perhaps no solution in our lifetime - take over our life? Has researching the Flying Saucer even driven some researchers to the brink of madness?

‘UFO LAWYER’ VOWS TO COMMIT PUBLIC SUICIDE

Peter Gersten

Peter Gersten is an unsung hero in the world of UFO research. Originally from New York and an articulate and accomplished attorney since 1970, Gersten gained the name “UFO Lawyer” due to his dedicated and serious efforts in uncovering UFO truth. Gersten skillfully utilized FOIA, the courts and other legal tools. He represented various research groups including CAUS (Citizens Against UFO Secrecy) and GSW (Ground Saucer Watch) as early as 1978 and through the 1990s in winning access to UFO records that were held by various government agencies including the CIA. Gersten teamed regularly with such researchers as Brad Sparks, Todd Zechel, Larry Bryant and Barry Greenwood in these legal efforts.

Gersten was also notable for his work in filing a personal injury lawsuit on behalf of Betty Cash and Vicky and Colby Landrum. The three Texans had attested to witnessing a UFO in December of 1980 that was accompanied by helicopters that somehow has ‘irradiated’ them and caused life-long illnesses. This is the famous “Cash Landrum” UFO case. Though Gersten was unsuccessful in his claim against the government, Gersten worked tirelessly to prove the case.

The cracks in the egg began to show however in 1998. Gersten began making off-the-wall pronouncements that he possessed ‘special knowledge’ about the phenomenon. In fact he issued a statement that a UFO would publicly land in Arizona on December 7th of that year. Of course, no such saucer ever did land. From that point on, Gersten began to assume a more “mystical” tone in his writing and beliefs. He even took to donning ‘wizard robes’ and roaming the desert in search of truth:

A far more frightening turn was taken this year when Gersten proclaimed that he actually intends to leap off of Bell Rock near Sedona, AZ on December 21, 2012 at precisely 11:11. Gersten believes that the date of Winter Solstice 2012 is very significant as is “11/11.” He maintains that on that date, at that time and at that place, an “inter-dimensional portal” will open up to “elsewhere.” He believes that this cosmic portal can be entered by leaping off of a towering summit (Bell Rock) near ‘sacred’ Sedona.

Bell Rock, AZ (from where Gersten says he will hurl himself)

It was in 1998 (the year he predicted a public UFO landing) that Gersten began noticing the symbolism and “meaning” of 11:11. Gersten began “seeing” the “11:11” and variations of these numbers everywhere, including in digital devices. Somehow in his mind he has combined the significance of this time with the 2012 date and the place, Sedona. They will “coalesce” he believes, and when he throws himself off of the mountain, he will be “saved” by a swooping Flying Saucer which will “catch” him before his body crashes to the desert floor. It will then whisk him away to a new, and presumably better reality. Gersten maintains a website that details this plan.
This author has communicated with Peter Gersten about this and other UFO matters. I have always appreciated his early contributions to the field and enjoyed dialoging with him. Back in June 23, 2010 I received an email from Gersten explaining to me his current belief about the Roswell crash and about ET.

In part it read: “Anthony - I believe that something crashed at Roswell and that a continuing policy of secrecy was instituted in the form of the National Security Act of 1947. But I believe it was because of an unusual technology that was discovered in the object. I do not believe that any strange creatures were found.” I respected Gersten’s opinion and had sought out his thoughts on the issue due to my interest and his prior work on the matter.

But when I found out that Gersten has now proclaimed that he will jump off a mountain - and make a “leap of faith” that he will be saved by a UFO - I became profoundly disturbed. I could barely believe that the man I had earlier corresponded with and had respected all of these years really meant that he really would do this.

Frankly horrified and appalled, on May 12, 2011 I emailed him:

“Peter - I have valued your work at CAUS and your early work using FOIA, the courts and other legal tools to access UFO truth. This is why I beseech you to re-consider. your decision to enter a cosmic portal by leaping from Bell Rock on December 12, 2012You have offered the research world much, and you have much more to offer. Please stay with us."

Are you not concerned that others may wish to follow your leap from Bell Rock? What if others who read of your planned endeavor seek to join you in the Leap? How will you respond to them and what will you advise them? What has your family said about this? Are you not concerned that when you leave, they will be left without you?”

Gersten replied to me that same day:

“Tony - I do not know what the exact details of my leap of faith will be, though I am now prepared to risk my life for what I believe in if necessary. I neither encourage nor discourage another’s actions now or in the future. I will not tell another how they should live or die. I am not responsible for the actions of others. I no longer have any responsibility regarding my family. And if I did it would end on my death. But once again, I do not know how my story will end and probably will not know until 12-21-2012.”

It is obvious that Peter has committed to what is certain suicide. His comments and attitude about his family are of special concern. Where are they? Why are they not stepping forward to help? I also have concern that others may elect to join Peter next year in this obviously fatal exercise. I implore anyone who may personally know Peter Gersten to counsel him against his decision. If they do not, it will be too late and we will look back wondering how it had ever happened.

UFO VENDOR ‘LOSES IT’

Bill Knell has been active in UFO research and reporting for decades. Known as the “UFO Guy,” he operates several websites and online stores that offer DVDs, videos and cassettes on the phenomenon. Knell has been featured on the Coast-to-Coast national radio show and has written numerous online articles and privately printed treatises. Knell did much good early work on UFO incidents on Long Island and in the NY region.

In recent years, however, Knell has taken a turn. Knell has been accused of criminal activities such as making illegal copies of other researchers copyrighted UFO documentaries and videos and selling them on his site and on other web stores. He also began to make over-the-top claims of having met Jackie Gleason (who told him of crashed ET that he had seen) and Walter Cronkite (who confirmed the UFO reality.) This author had contacted Knell about two years ago relative to a claim made by Knell that he had interviewed the daughter of the Roswell Base Chaplain. When I called out Knell on this and indicated that I had actually found the RAAF Base Chaplain’s daughter and that she bore no resemblance to how Knell had described her, he harshly accused me of being a “disinformation agent” who was “in bed with the enemy.”

Knell had as his arch-rival another Long Island based UFO researcher, John Ford. Ford operated his “Long Island UFO Network” while Knell operated the “Long Island Skywatch” organization.

John Ford, UFO Investigator

John J. Ford was a Long Island court officer and a long-time UFO enthusiast. He established a UFO research organization in the late 1980s. Ford garnered the attention of other researchers such as Phil Imbrogno and Linda Moulton Howe for his early investigation of Long Island area sightings and events. By the 1990s however, Ford began to believe that a UFO had crashed near Long Island’s Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton. He further believed that the Suffolk County authorities were involved in creating “diversionary” fires in Long Island’s Pine Barrens to conceal the alien’s crash landing. Writing in 1993, Ford’s rival Bill Knell took to the Net to begin deriding Ford’s claims. Knell also accused Ford of harassing and threatening him, with Ford accusing Knell of the same.

Ford’s beliefs became even more bizarre by 1996. Ford, at the time 48, was arrested on charges that he was scheming to kill John Powell, the chairman of the Suffolk County Republican Committee as well as Fred Towle, a Suffolk County legislator, and Anthony Gazzola, Chief Investigator for the Brookhaven Town Attorney’s Office. Ford planned to put deadly radium in their cars and lace their toothpaste with radioactive metal. Ford wanted the three killed because he believed that they were purposely interfering with his investigation of the Brookhaven UFO crash and with his efforts to contact aliens. Ford was found unfit to stand trial and was committed to the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center where he has remains to this day. Bill Knell gloated over his rival’s turn of events.

This past month, a decade and a half after his rival John Ford was committed to a mental institution, Bill Knell himself degenerated to lows in mental health that have never been seen in the UFO world. We learn in an article appearing in the March 30, 2011 edition of the Lebanon (IN) Reporter:

“Testimony by the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Lebanon Police Department revealed that the Knell home at 1610 Ashley Drive was layered in filth, overrun by cockroaches, with rotting food in the refrigerator, bathrooms and bedrooms and toilets. The chair that Mr. Knell had been sitting in appeared to be covered in urine and feces.”

The article continues that Knell. 55, and his wife, 47, face up to 10 criminal charges of child neglect.

OTHER FALLEN

William Moore, Former UFO Researcher

As readers know, this author is a proponent of the ET reality of the Roswell crash. Because of this, I have had dialog with Bill Moore, one of the original Roswell researchers (and author of the first book on the subject, The Roswell Incident.) Along with Stan Friedman, Moore “re-surfaced” awareness of the Roswell crash in 1980.

Moore’s story is well-known. Despite early pioneering work on the Roswell crash that was of considerable quality, Moore slowly began to become more ‘wild’ and gullible in his research. He started to affiliate with people such as Richard Doty, a known con-man who had an association with Air Force Intelligence. Moore has played a role in the release of the scurrilous “MJ 12” papers and put together what he termed an “Aviary” of supposed military and intelligence insiders seeking the “core story” about ET truth. He assigned these individuals aliases, using the names of birds. The “birds” (many of whom I have spoken with) often did not even know that they had ever been “named” - and that what Moore was referring to about what was said by Aviary “members” was simply their speculation and private thoughts. Moore simply “looped back” this speculation to other members, creating “mystery” where there was none.

This “cloak and dagger” fantasy of Moore’s extends to this day! Moore lives in a dreamt-up world of supposed agents and counteragents and of spy games and codenames of his own making. In an email to me dated March 31, 2010, Bill Moore responded to my email to him from the previous day. I had inquired of Moore about his thoughts on a particular facet of the Roswell crash. Though I had corresponded with him previously, Moore had now become totally nonsensical and utterly paranoid in his reply to me:

“Mr. Bragalia - If you can answer these three recognition questions correctly, you will have identified yourself as someone I can safely talk to. Otherwise I have nothing more to say. I understand that you have an Aunt who is a famous dancer. (1) What is her name? (2) Where does she dance (3) And what is her favorite bird? Best, WM”

Two decades later and he has worsened. Bill Moore remains oddly suspicious of others, obsessed with the “birds” and “Aviary” motif that he invented, and he continues to be compelled to fashion himself as a “James Bond.” Needless to say, I did not have the answers to Moore’s made-up “pre-screening” questions and thus I never received an answer from him to my original question.

This childish and psychologically revealing email reply from Moore had me wondering: Whatever exactly had become of him? I phoned my research associate Tom Carey (co-author of Witness to Roswell) to ask him if he knew anything about Moore’s livelihood or whereabouts. Tom replied that though circumstances may have changed by now, the last that he had heard Bill Moore had taken to repairing motorcycles for a living. He was residing in an apartment above a seedy bar in West Hollywood. It appears that no one hears much from Bill Moore anymore.

THE MENTAL STRAIN OF UFO RESEARCH

Of course the above are rather extreme examples of how UFOs can tax the mental and psychological well-being of those who study them. But one does not need to announce public suicide, attempt to kill, become neglectful of basic hygiene, or think himself a James Bond in order to suffer the torments of research unrequited.
Traveling down paths with no end, knocking on doors with no answer, UFO researchers do their work often without any real reward. The UFO puzzle continues to puzzle them, decade after decade. The mind reverberates as it dwells on this illusive, confounding mystery. It could drive even the most stable of us to disorder on occasion. This author himself confesses to nights of sleeplessness and to periods of elation and of profound disappointment over research of the UFO. Perhaps the curse that Phil Klass’ made in his Will to ufologists that we will die not knowing the truth is indeed true.

Researchers are limited by resources and time, as nearly all do this work as an avocation. Academia ostracizes them. The mainstream Press giggles. It is no wonder that those who study the UFO often feel like one-eyed men in a kingdom of the blind.
Obviously such study can affect different people in very different ways. For some it is an intellectual exercise. For others it is a matter of detective research. For still others it is an obsession and ‘extreme hobby.’ But for a minority, it can become unhealthy and even dangerous as we have seen.
